Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors

We-
organic images
dissolving earth

Our future children
sure at us unfixed
from a residence of stars
in their sidereal ships
ho sailing beyond within

Their eyes
black in kingdoms of gold
like the rocks of this desert
where we wander in circles
tails up the ass of time

And our vision
goes backwards
the traces we see
after something
ot even existing
beyond the prints

All dreams end here
where our cries began
resounding to museums
of a world we believed
neverending

And we stop
exhausted
beginning
not again

And the panic
like the light
of some star
exploding

Flashing in black holes of not knowing
if we ever made a away out of this mud

what kind of music is that? im guessing alternative

Hell no.

It's... err... umm... technically, it would fall under the category of Black Metal. More correctly put, it would be considered Avante-Gard Black Metal Featuring Garm.

Ulver and Arcturus are two of my favorite bands - along with Borknagar - especially anything featuring the human drum machine Hellhammer (of Mayhem fame).

Lemme find a review...

Arguably one of the best drummers in the world and certainly the best in the metal genre: The mighty Hellhammer.

The Grimoire does some of the most humerous interviews I've ever read: http://www.thegrimoire.com/mayhem.htm

For those not into the metal scene, it can be very easy to be disappointed when tasting the music. I'll be the first to admit that there's a large amount of utter crap out there.

Metal, in general, approaches album production differently than music made for the masses, whether it be alternative, rap, country, et cetera. Metal CD's are much more composed to be listened to as a whole entity, whereas material from 'hit' or radio-friendly bands seem to just throw individual songs onto a LP and call it their newest album.

Even the most heavy, insane, gutteral, cacophonous band such as [early] Emperor, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, or Dodheimsgard will often have actual composed intro's, outro's, and mid-album breaks of piano, violin and otherwise orchestrated interludes. One might mistakenly be confused and disheartened after having a euphonous violin soliloquy seemingly interrupted by 20 BPS blast beats, tinnitus-inducing tremelo guitars and screaming vocals. Metal is an entity intended to be processed as a whole, unlike it's piecewise cousins alternative and hard rock.

The EF music forum here is pretty dominated by a number of metalheads, From Zero, Flah, and Majutsu among the most notable.
