Well, the specific title of the thread is "things you don't understand the appeal of." Everyone has the right to their own beliefs but any spiritual movement/ideology that has it's hands that deeply in your pockets is questionable and in fact that's a standard benchmark in the pagan community, how much money does the organization want out of you and how often. Certain fees are understandable and acceptable but when the amounts seem usurious run.

I certainly realize that my beliefs may be weird to people not familiar with paganism or Wicca, but put it this way, my tradition hosted a big magickal conference last year. The speakers were leaders in Solomonic tradition, Gnosticism, Druidism, Voudon, various forms of wicca and witchcraft and the founder of The Order of Saint Michael, which is an esoteric, ecumenical Christian community but uh, no Scientologists.

As for the cell phone/MP3 player thing, I just don't understand being plugged into something electronic 24/7, you can't think. I especially don't understand it when you're like out in the woods or something

I think the music thing kinda metaphorically reveals how closed off we are from our environment and others. Like we are all in our isolated own worlds. Its not real invidiualism, just the kind sold in aisles. It does make money though. Problem is that teens growing up today are living in a strange world. The sense of self is largely now established through media marketization, based more on how you appear, and what you consume. Consumption=identity. Things always get worse before they get better. Oh well.

Yeah, you got me on the last two of your list, the other ones I don't even have a problem with cause well, yeah, they aren;'t things that I'm pretty sure I have never even thought of.
