Wetsuits (fullsuit)

velvett you came to the right guy, I kayak so here is my input, if your gonna be out in a yak anytime after october id get a dry top or a dry deck, you dont want that water in period ,a wetsuit will just make you cold as hell,I made that mistake my first year out and just went in a short sleeve and short wet suit and almost went hypo when I swam after flipping in a hole, and due to the water being higher and faster it turned into a mile swim before anyone could help me and then I had to be taken immediately to a car with the heat on full blast and I was still shivering.

as for surfing I wouldnt surf when its that cold as a wetsuit wont help and a drysuit is to bulky.

if ya have anymore questions let me know

THANK GOD!

So what should I wear on my legs?

Oh I haven't flipped yet, I know it's coming coz I love the small waves. A mile swim - OMG you're lucky you're ok. Thanks for the response I really want to keep going as long as the weather is doable.

I went 4 miles yesterday - my best trip so far!

for my legs just to keep warm from the elements I wear fuzzy neoprene pants and then shorts over top, with insulated booties.

have you taken a course yet? or have someone teaching you to roll? if not id reccomend it,I was self taught from videos and now I have a bombproof roll, but it was a steep learning curve and sometimes scary.

another good website to check out is www.boatertalk.com or www.boatwerks.net lots of info there and good for meeting paddling partners or anyone interested in the sport

and the mile swim did suck but I got in over my head in spring water levels with continuous rapids ,nobody could get me a rope till I washed out of the rapids

I can't wait to learn to surf. I'm fixing to move to some of the best surfing/kayaking beaches in California and I can't wait. :dolphin:

I work with a girl who does the whole surfing thing bigtime. She and her husband surf together. She just got back from surfing in Costa Rica. I can ask her for the best wetsuit advice.

I used to Dive and being a Bodybuilder they are a bitch to get off!

curling is kicking off the bes 411 on this thread. Ripcurl, Oneil, Body Glove are the most common.

Fill them up with water and peel them off ...That is what I did.

Thank YOU!

My next option was to cover myself in vaseline but that would be a mess to clean up!

For kayaking a 7 mil full body or farmer john would be fine all day long for water around 70 degrees F, I have been in low 60's for over a hour with a seven mil and was fine other than my hands and feet (4 mil gloves and boots) To thick for surfing though.Aslo if you arnt wet it will be hot as hell.

LOL...The first time I put on a wetsuit, I was flopping around like a fish trying to get it on. The guy who was dive testing me had a bunch of laughs then told me to fill it up with water.

you guys def have to remember she will likely be in 50degree water in early winter and spring in the north, I just cant see a wet suit cutting it,and I live about 3 hours to ny state so the water is the same there as here
