Well, I'm on my ship!

I've been on my ship for the past couple weeks and it's not all that bad. The people are pretty cool. Going out to sea isn't too bad....I thought for sure I was gonna get sea sick our first time underway, but I was fine. We run 2 miles at 7:00 in the morning every day before work. They just started doing that right when I got here. My first night here I went to my very first strip club. It's called Crossroads and the girls there are FREAKS! They eat eachother out on stage and shit. They're pretty cool though. I talked to a few of them. I even got a free lap dance in the VIP room. lol! Anyways, Jacksonville is a little colder than I thought it would be, but it's still a hell of a lot nicer than Milwaukee. Right now I'm just chillin in the CIC with nothing better to do. One of the guys from our division is leaving so we're having a party for him tonight. I'll be suckin down my share of coronas. It's weird cuz everything they told us was wrong in bootcamp and a-school goes on here. We can have relationships with people on our ship, we can go drink a beer with our chief. I can hang out with petty officers even though I'm only a seaman apprentice. I've actually been staying with two second class petty officers rather than on the ship cuz living on the ship is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING. Anyways, that's pretty much all I've got for now. Latah.

I remember when i was on a NATO exercise with american soldiers 5 years ago or so. Many of the soldiers looked shocked when they saw we had females in out bataljon. Glad to hear thats not tha case :)

Chances are that her rate will not get her anywhere near combat.
Females still cannot join special forces and are usually not allowed into combat roles.

The navy has females on many ships as morale gear.

As a young, intelligent female on-board a US Naval vessel, I doubt she's unaware that the Navy put females on ships for the same reason they imported hookers to Diego Garcia.

It keeps the boys from playing with other boys. Gives the girls a sense of excitement (nothing like sitting at General Quarters for 12 hours for excitement) and it keeps the liberal media from screaming sexism.

This is an unfair, uninformed comment. I am positive that SG is perfoming a vital function on board her ship, and if her vessel came under fire, the females would die just as fast as the males. She may very likely be in harm's way soon if we attack Iraq. Were will you be?

Thanks for your service Sailor Girl.

Hey Sailor Girl, if your in Jacksonville around St.Patricks day shoot up to Savannah Ga, for a hell of a party! You won't believe it. :drink2: :arty: :dance2:

You're welcome, and thank you for your support. I'm one of 2 females in my division onboard the ship. There's about 30 people in my division. Most of the males are lazy shit bags. There's a few that stand out from the crowd, but most are just along for the ride and college money. The other female is a second class and she is one of the most respected people on our ship. She is an outstanding OS. My first day underway I was actually plotting on the DDRT (digital dead reckoning tracer). They said that's the first time they've ever seen someone actually DO their job their first time underway, usually they just sit around and observe. And as for having females on board ships as morale gear..........there's A LOT of ugly bitches in the Navy. I hate to say it, but a lot of overweight females and a lot of manly looking females.

Anyways, I'm sure the families of the females that died on the USS Cole would have a lot to say in this post as well.

DBCooper.........I'll keep that in mind! Thanks!

Where you at in FL?

Anyone else find it a bit disturbing that the Navy allows people in the Combat Information Center to be posting to an Internet Chat board ?

That's when we're in port and have nothing better to do. When we're out to sea we don't have internet access, just email.

Right now I'm on Santa's lap on the North Pole, but I really live in Tampa.

When you're off for a few days we'll cause some trouble in Ybor. hehehe

Nothing personal SG.. In port or out to sea, it seem like a loose security policy to be in a Secured area of the ship and have unfettered access to the Internet...

Why would it be a loose security policy??

Edgecrusher.....We've only been underway twice since I've been here and they were only for 1-2 days at a time to do drills. We spend most of our time in port for now till we leave for the med.
