weightlifting while training mma

so i just started training for the last couple weeks...going for bout 4 times a week. i found myself beat to hell and too sore to lift weights...my question is to the mma guys, do u guys do alot of weightlifting with the training or do you guys mainly focus on the cardio and techniques??thanx

Focus on power and Oly style movements but with higher reps and sets. I do my weights in the morning and my cardio and training at night.

Weights are a good way to gain strength, but remember in the ring, its not a bodybuilding or beauty contest. Focus on your training.

Recovery is a huge issue---I'd recommend getting used to your MMA training prior to starting a resistance training regime. It can be a tricky balancing act.

I started taking the product below recently - *3 times a day*. Unbelievabily (to me), it reduced all my emotional stress, and so my body has started recovering much more quickly. I dont have the money for juice, but this stuff is certainly worth the £/$'s!

P.s. Generally GNC is expensive, so if you do find it cheaper make sure it is Timed Release and has the bioflavoniods for best absorbsion.

Like any good training program - cycle routines.

If you have a specific fight coming up it's easier how to periodize your training. If you are just training for fitness and skills building than change your training every 8 weeks to keep it fresh.

8 weeks - lift heavy, light cardio, work heavy bag
8 weeks - lift light, heavy cardio, work speed bag
8 weeks - lift medium, focus on speed training, work more ground game

changing things up keeps things fresh mentally and also allows you body to recover from different styles of training.

Good advice. Someone posted a link to a T-Mag article on weight training for MMA that was really good, search around, its on here somewhere.

Unless you're really malnourished you're probably already getting enough Vitamin C, any extra just gets pissed out anyway.

Im pretty much hardore into weights. When I trained bjj a couple years ago, It cut me up, but I coudlent recover between weight workouts. Joints started making all those clicking popping noises. I would cut weight training in half compared to normal if working out bjj 3x a week.
