It's well known that stress causes loss of hair. Everyone has heard of the expression "I was pulling my hair out". Well, that's what happens when you put the body under undue stress: the hair comes loose at the roots.

Anyone who lifts and still has their hair just isn't lifting hard enough.

of course, my friend. everybody I know that's been serious with lifting weights has lost hair, and they're very upset, but there's nothing they could do about it. When I started lifting back then, they warned me, they warned me harshly, but I shrugged them off, because I thought they were foolish. But no shit, a couple of years later, my head now looks like george costanza's, you know, that character off of Seinfeld. I look horrible, and I now shun weightlifting because of this. I don't even know why I'm a part of this board.

But you, you can still save yourself. Stop lifting immediately. Weightlifting is evil, and will only result in the worst outcome of your self-imagery.

....if I could only go back in time....

So you're one of those gym baldies???!?

Damn, I really feel for you guys when I'm down the gym. I mean, you go to all that effort to get in shape and you come out lookin like a golf ball.

I'd love to know the exact science behind it all so I can make an informed decision about whether to return to lifting.

All replies are welcome...

I definitely think theres an element of truth to what you're saying. I mean, it makes sense scientificallly. i.e. more T/DHT = less hair and more muscle

please, I don't want to talk about it anymore. I spent years trying to forget those horrid, rancid memories. oh why did you have to create this post?

Yes, I agree, it's really not kind to refer to a slap-head as "golf ball".

Yeah, I mean, some people can be so cruel. But you know I really don't want to get into the position where anyone would potentially view me like that.

Do any of you have any friends who have gone bald since they started doing weights?

I look at rugby teams and its always the forwards who are bald....

I'm thinking this is cos the backs do more running and thus have less T/DHT.

thoughts?

I feel for you man I really do. Please feel free not to respond any more, I know what a psychological problem this can induce. I mean I guess you didn't stand much of a chance in the hair dept. what with weightlifting for so many years and having to eat the standard American diet as well. You knw that diet is soooooooo hard on hair follicles.

I'd love to know just what impact numerically/statistically going to the gym has on hair loss in genetically susceptible individuals.
