Does weight training increase testosterone in women?

I know it can increase in men from heavy squats, but what about women?

yes it does...not to the degree it does in men, obviously-but there is a significant increase....

PBR-What are you basing you answer on?

You use the word significant, but I wouldnt say significant enough to grow facial hair or any of the side associated with exogenous test use.

Just didnt want you to scare any of the girls from the gym :)

i thought girls didnt have testosterone at all, and it only got in them from having sex or using supplements

That was a joke, right??

Women produce testosterone and men produce estrogen.

In women T is produced primarily by the ovaries. Women produce generally about 1/10th the amount of T as men. However some women have naturally higher endogenous T levels and may actually produce as much as some men with lower T production.

And BTW there are no girls on this board.

i always just assumed chromosomes had something to do with it... since men are XY yes i knew they produced some estrogen, but i never thought females produced test, because they only got 2 female chromosomes

I see your reasoning and yes the sex chromosome does effect hormonal production. But all humans have to produce testosterone. It is responsible for so many things in the body that could'nt possibly happen without it. In puberty it does the same things to us that it did to you, increased body hair, deeper voice, bigger muscles, development of sex drive. And as an adult T is one of the hormones critical to repairing lean body tissue, just like in a man.

I'm one of those women who produce a lot of test naturally. Boy, do I go through a lot of razors...
