Raw and tested feds are not the "spirit of powerlifting" -- they are the special Olympics of powerlifting.

Whoa, hold on there junior. Calling raw and drug tested meets "special olympics" is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I went to the Arnold Classic and my opinion of the WPO meet was that it was the professional wrestling version of powerlifting. It tells you something when a guy comes out and gets crushed with his opening bench of 800 pounds because he didn't have his shirt on properly then comes back out on his second attempt with the shirt slightly adjusted and suddenly does 840 pounds after being crushed with 800 a few minutes earlier.

Good point FTF! I have talked with guys at the top of the sport and MANY wish lifting wasnt the way it is. The sport is pushed by promoters wanting big numbers and companies creatiing "viable" products that really dont need to be created.

Powerlifting HAS lost its essence. Too many feds, poor judging and who can afford the most equipment ISNT nor will it EVER be what powerlifting is about.

Exactly. I love powerlifting and it's the sport where I've had the most success but some of the stuff I'm seeing makes me sick. Honestly, I would rather see Rychlak come out and do 750 raw than do 1000 with a $250 shirt. Although I do like a certain amount of equipment for safety. Maybe one day all the federations will set up some reasonable regulations on equipment that will be standard for all meets.
