In colleges and universities, "hooking up" is pretty much defined as a casual one night stand.

In my hometown, the phrase "hooking up" means getting together with someone, like as in becoming a couple. Nothing to do with sex. This is the definition I still use, I don't care about what all you sluts think it means.

What it means really depends on where you are. Saying, "I hooked up with a hot 16 year old last night" can mean completely different things.

Yeah it could have a couple meanings depending on the context used.

Like samoth said - it can be used like this:
