we hired an intern today.

stilleto

ELITE MENTOR
EF VIP
He's 48 and is going to work for me for 6 weeks, unpaid.

why, you ask?
because there's so few jobs that he said as long as he's looking for work, he might as well continue to get experience with us to add to his resume.

(he was an account manager at a marketing firm, but didn't have the hands on experience at a non-agency he's going to get with us).

so, 2 things:
would 6 weeks of experience at a mid size company really make that much of a difference?

training this guy and making sure he has work to do is going to totally suck up my valuable time. grrr.

I was thinking the same thing... maybe he wants so bad to work that he's willing to work for free, show how hardworking and dedicated he is and in turn receive a paying job??

That's more than likely illegal. :)

It takes some pretty strict requirements to qualify someone as an "unpaid" intern. He's gonna sue yo ass after the fact!

Hook me up. I need an extra cash scam. bitches ain't been bringin me my money.

I had an intern for a month recently. she was great.

what did she do?
did you hire her full time?

I don't know if this guy would want to work at my place- he'd work for me, and although there is sometimes enough work for a full time extra person, i doubt that would last much more than a few weeks. Then there would only be enough work for maybe 2 days a week or a few hours a day, and mostly as my assistant.

which, btw, is what he's going to be for the next 6 weeks. i'm sure he's thrilled to be a 48 year old male assistant.

Well she didnt do much, she spent pretty much the entire month in training lol. She came from an internship/job program through Maximus. Its a W2 program. No, i didnt hire her full time even though she applied for one of my open positions. I would hire her, but I need to fill my open positions with bilingual reps.

ah. ok.
this guy is going to start by doing SEO research for me. i'm afraid to have him work on my sites, because if he messes it up, it's me who has to fix it.

i think i'll have him make some phone calls for me too to get advertising pricing.

Stop making independent decisions and sue for overtime back pay.

Done deal. :)
I could probably do that. I worked 3 years at a place where we worked 8 hour shifts with no lunch break. They kept telling us that people, who apparently all quit, voted to work 8 hours then leave rather than 8.5 hours with an unpaid lunch break. Essentially one person would go get lunch and we'd all grab bites between customers.

It was legal in GA. They have to stack the deck down there to get all the cotton picked and delivered to market on time.
