Waxy Maize vs *gasp* CORN STARCH

That being said Nelson, with someone like yourself who has been around on the scene for awhile, would you chose maltodextrin, dextrose, waxy maize, corn starch or "other" to include in a postworkout concoction? Maybe a really fine oat powder is even better?

Of course, dextrose. And in some cases, Rilose. :) That's what's in BIG BLAST and it's there for a reason.

The reason being -- dextrose is very sweet. So a moderate amount (2 tsps per 8 oz glass -- about 10 grams of carbs ) will give a nice natural sweet taste. Whereas maltodextrin is pretty bland. It would take 4 tsps to get a decent taste. That's 20 grams of carbs. Why eat more carbs than necessary?

I believe any shake or smoothie needs some natural sugar. Those no carb drinks taste like ass.

Okay, Ribose. That stuff is as close to insulin as anything around. It's made from rice which is far more digestable than corn. (Not to get gross, but have you ever noticed all that undigested corn in your stool?)

Ribose creates a BIG insulin spike making it great as either a per or post workout drink, but I would not recommend it on a regualr basis for anyone looking to cut. But for gaining mass by shuttling nutrients into the bloodstream, it's awesome.
