Timanator said:I dont think you can put a watch like a Tag or Oakley(Quartz movement) in the same catagories as the other watches being mentioned here. Those watches are more of a designer piece rather than a time piece. I think the cheapest you can get into a nice watch with good movement is Oris. That being said, I do love the Oakley watches, but would never own one at that price(Most Quartz movements should be well under $400)

manny78 said:I use my cellphone instead. Dont like watches. But if I ahd to buy one, I'd go with something not too bling bling (Tag Heur most likely).
ZKaudio said:that's just it, tag is the EPITOME of bling just for bling, all form no function, right up there with movado. The only watch in tag's lineup that is tolerable looking is the carrera chrono anyway. You'd be better served going with a low end oris or tissot if you didn't want too too bling.

what is this u-boat watch?ZKaudio said:funny thing, I get more compliments on my 1k uboat watch than on ANY of my other much more expensive watches... just how it goes.
xannax said:It all depends. There are alot of variables. If you are over 45 years old I would (will get when I am older) go with a Rolex. A Rolex on a younger arm screams I am a coke dealer or I bought this at a street corner for $50 and I am trying to pose as a coke dealer. I personally like my Tag for day to day. I think I will break down for the Rolex for a “special occasion watch” here pretty soon. Since my wife told me I was crazy if I get the Harry Winston Opus 5 http://www.opus5.ch/visuals.html# OH HOW I WANT IT though. I like Omegas until I put them on, the face is so big it looks something like Flava Fla would wear.
ZKaudio said:rolex is kinda old money looking and if you are wearing one under 30... good chance it's fake, and even if it's not, everyone will think it is... to top that, most all of their lower models are ugly. The movement is important, but not important enough to have an ugly watch!
Anthony Roberts said:Agreed. I have to agree with Chris Rock, who called Tag the "young guys Rolex" ...I have a Tag and an Accutron (which is the highest end of the Bulova line), and would rather wear either of those than a Rolex.
marshallmadman said:I really can't get down with that statement. You are saying that the whole reason you wouldn't wear a Rolex is because you would be thinking that everyone would be saying it's fake? As long as it's real, and you know it's real, who cares. That's why I have a 50th Anniversary Sub. Everyone has seen fake Presidents and the like, so no one really doubts the authenticity of mine. Oh yeah, I'm also an old man, so that helps. I'm 38, and most people guess me for 27. My friends know what I do for a living, so no one questions my ability to afford a Rolex.
Anthony Roberts said:I wasn't the guy who said that people would think that it was fake. I do think that Rolex is kind of old school...some things are old school and cool (Social Distortion, Jack Daniels, etc....)...Rolex just isn't one of those things that I think I can pull off.
I'm 29, tattoo'd heavily, pierced up, shaved head, timberlands, etc....I just can't rock a Rolex...
Maybe when I'm 38!

truckdaddy said:Rolex SubMariner with a black face looks good on ANYONE. Its just a clean ass watch.
Anthony Roberts said:My Tag (stainless) is actually 100% clean. No Numbers, no markings, no nothing, really. Just stainless and brushed steel...one face, no 3-faces on the one, etc...
marshallmadman said:Just picked up a Gevril Tribeca. It's like a Rolex Daytona, only the movement is way better quality, it's heavier, and it's thicker than the Rolex.
SOLD:
Rolex Sub
Cartier Pasha
Movado (forgot the style, was a gift)
Currient:
Panerai-LOVE IT
Patek- till death, gift from father.
I really think Bell & Ross is going to be the leader of "young watch" movement... no one else has such cool designs without sacrificing movement/tolerances.
sold everything due to financial reasons but Panerai hands down. no question about it[/QUOTE
My Panerai rarely leaves my winder these days. Every trust fund kid here in Newport Beach has one. I honestly prefer my Omega anyway.
Rolex is the nice brand for watches .
