War Thread Sticky

Where does it say our guys had protective gear?

Dr Michael Kilpatrick, a medical official in the office of the assistant secretary of defence for health affairs, said it was unclear whether sailors were intentionally exposed to the germ and chemical toxins without the benefit of protective masks and gear.

When you read the over-arching plans for the testing, people were to be protected

Is there a chance that Germany, Russia, or China warn USA that if the attacks on Iraq don't stop that they will declare war on USA?

Noone will attack the USA for SAddam Hussein. There will be no consequences at all, except some diplomatic tensions.

Saddam is not in Iraq... he is in Saudi Arabia...

Check this theory.

Of the 17 or so terrorists from 9/11... they were Saudi and Egyptian. None were Iraqi. The terrorist operations are headquartered out of Saudi Arabia. But they are our allies, no? Sure... but that is where Osama is... and it is where Saddam is, if he is smart.

So why attack Iraq? If we invaded Saudi Arabia... they produce a little over 30% of the world's oil... Iraq... in the low 20%. If we were to march into Saudi Arabia... we would have the shut down of 50% of the world's oil right there... we couldn't make the move, it would be too financially devistating.

So... move into Iraq... Capture a foothold... set up a sympathetic government... who will honor our oil needs... setting it up... to take out the big dog... Saudi Arabia...

That's the theory.

C-ditty

I'm glad someone else has noticed what a bunch of pricks the Saudis are.

The article states that everything about which you are trying to stir shit is "unclear". Also, consider the source. So what is your point?

The source? US officials are the sources cited by the Guardian.

Just in case you hadn't noticed, there is a difference between testing gas on military personnel who are wearing protective gear and using gas to intentionally kill citizens of your own country. Your lame attempt at demonstrating a parallel is just that.

Exactly, UNCLEAR. And of course things will remain unclear while people try to cover their backs. The fact remains that people were exposed WITHOUT any of the protection the plan suggested was necessary but went unused.

Intentionally gassing your own citizens or your own sailors. It sounds like you are creating a division for the purposes of convenience. Neither sounds particularly ethical to me. At least the Kurds knew that Saddam was their enemy who had malicious intent towards them.

2/3's of the Iraqi conscript army ready to surrender

Sky News

'CONSCRIPTS TO SURRENDER'

Two-thirds of Iraq's conscript army are ready to surrender without a fight, according to US military sources in Kuwait.

Two army divisions totalling 20,000 troops based in the south of Iraq are set to give themselves up to Allied forces in nearby Kuwait, the sources told Sky News reporter Colin Brazier.

The sources said Iraq's 11th infantry and 51st mechanised divisions were "ready to capitulate".

They said troops from the 6th armoured division were also believed to be considering giving themselves up.

Brazier, with US troops in Kuwait, said recent intelligence briefings had reported the troops were badly motivated.

Asked why the conscripts would surrender, Sky's Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said: "They are underfed, underpaid and extremely scared."

Sky correspondent David Chater, in Baghdad, said there had been a lot of campaigning by Allied forces to encourage conscripts to give themselves up.

US planes have been dropping leaflets in Iraq urging Iraqi troops to surrender.

Chater said the decision was "no real surprise" - but the crucial matter was whether Saddam Hussein's elite Republican Guard would fight.

According to documents just released by the Pentagon, Flower Drum, together with other tests with names like Autumn Gold and Shady Grove, were part of Operation Shad (shipboard hazard and defense), which was designed to evaluate the weapons themselves, the forces' protective gear, and decontamination procedures.

Nothing new here.
The US Military tests on its Soldiers as safely as it knows how at the time.
When Nuclear testing was first done in the 40's, they thought Sunglasses were sufficient to protect soldiers in the field.
They know different now thanks to these tests..

Again, not a close comparison to what others have done
intentionally hansnz..
Go back to clipping your sheep now bro..

This was alleged to have happened over 40 years ago. At one time we also used to hang suspected witches and own black people. What does that have to do with anything now?

One day some dictator may march his army in to New Zealand. Will you bitch when we send our soldiers to bail your whiny European ass out?

Saddam's famous gas attack against the Kurds occurred nearly 20 years ago. So "what does that have to do with anything now?"

One day some dictator may march his army in to New Zealand. Will you bitch when we send our soldiers to bail your whiny European ass out?

I see you are displaying the renouned American knowledge of geography. New Zealand is not in Europe.

Typical American mentality - everyone owes you something. We owe you nothing. If some theoretical dictator did march into my country he would no doubt have been an American creation somewhat like Saddam. In any case the US wouldn't come and "save" us because we don't have any resources you need.
