Wanting to move to Florida any suggestions where?

Im a single guy looking to move to Florida im looking for some sugggestions where to move to. I have visited Ft Lauderdale, Miami, Etc., my favorite places have to be Coco beach but im not sure how it would be to live there. Any suggestions would be appreiciated, thanks.

Depends on what you're looking for....

Miami -
- huge
- congested traffic
- speak spanish
- better clubs, south beach, wild night life
- more expensive, parking sucks
- jobs - probably good, but dont' know (or as good as the rest of the country)

Ft. Lauderdale
- less traffic
- less spanish
- some good clubs, but not south beach, still wild night life
- less expensive, parking can be a pain, but is do-able
- jobs - decent

West Palm Beach - same as Ft. Lauderdale but further north

Cocoa Beach - way north - this gets in to central FL, Daytona, etc?
- not quite like S. FL anymore, more like Orlando.
- gets colder in the winter

Also SE FL is like the "southern bourough" of NY.

The west side (Tampa, etc.) is mostly mid-west.

The middle of FL - everglades, nuthin else.

Whatcha looking for in a residence? Near the water? Boating? Warm weather? Job? Cost of living?

FORT MYERS!!!! Its a bit northwest of Miami, its a city of about 455,000 and grows by 11,000 each year. Beautiful place, beautiful women, I can't wait to move there. I hate mid florida.

well... "a bit northwest of Miami" makes it sound like Pembroke Pines or something... Fort Myers is on the gulf side FL. But a nice place nevertheless! Fort Myers Beach rocks! But the diving sucks :-(

Well i guess im looking for an affordable water community like a small surf town,( i like to surf, also im a pro jetskier so lakes are a must, too). Someplace that has a night life too. So is south florida better than central or what? Anything can be better than Houston right now, yaknow

I live in MIRAMAR next to Pembroke Pines and Hollywood and it is growing like crazy. The builders have put up so many communitys that they can no longer go any farther west because they have hit the everglades!I am looking at houses but for $160,000 or so I can go farther north and get MORE house and land. The houses are rather close together in my opinion and if you have a problem with home owner associations then you may be out of luck. Many people are moving up north and I mean orlando,GAINESVILLE, FT MEYERS, and other spots because they can get a 2500 sq. ft. house up there for 130's or 140's and have 4 acres with it and some even buy the land cheap and build a custom home and have money left over from their old home to invest or travel or whatever.If I am going to get a house down in Pembroke Pines I will have to spend about $180,000 for what I want and if I go to GAINESVILLE with that cash , I will have 5 to 10 acres and a 3000 sq ft home.I do not know what you exactly want but I am looking at the future and to get a big house with lots of land , low taxes, and a pool and no neighbors to look into my window and the dogs can run wild! Many retirees are going north and the quality of life is better but you have to make the final decision.
