In some martial arts this is common. In thailand muay thai fighters are beaten with those sticks while working the heavy bag. In the video it just looked like he was mad and being a bully, there didnt look like their was a purpose to the beatings.

did you see that special on MTV "real life" or whatever the hell it was called, those 2 american brothers who fought muay thai, i saw the instructor hitting them in the legs with a small stick, but it wasnt nearly as brutal as the guy in this video....btw...the older/bigger brother on that show was badass, he beat the living crap out of the best thailand had to offer.

A favor some would say.. eh maybe, maybe not. I wonder how many students drop out because of his anger.

Not sure if you could get away with that in the states. We had to sign a waiver for most of our test and certain classes esp the personal one on one with our sensi because of how hard we were pushed and many times would leave with injuries.

The personal classes were the worse, but you knew what you were getting into when you paid for them.

the only time my Sensi showed any anger twords me in class was when I voiced my opinion on the outside of class in front of other students. Never disrepected him but answered him and he didn't like the answer and then asked why so I told him. Well needless to say he had it out for me the whole class.
