That video made me want to cry. But I don't see it as "right here at home." It was over half a century ago and all those people are dead. It's a different world. Now, racism has become is a catch phrase for opportunists. I'm not sure which one is more sickening.

Newsflash. Those white students that were harassing black students as they tried to enroll in schools throughout the South in the 60's are not dead. They're now in their mid 60's and they're business owners, Chiefs of Police, politicians, attorneys, etc. They are the fathers of people I went to school with (I'm in my 40's). They live right next to you and me and their hate is as strong now as it was then.

Just tonight I was watching Real Sports on HBO. There was a segment about blacks and swimming. In the 70's (keyword 70's) blacks tried to integrate public beaches. The Klan was there with sticks to beat them out of the water. Policemen were actually standing in the water separating the Klan from blacks and they broke through to get them. They showed video of it. They showed a hotel manager pouring acid into a hotel pool to get blacks who were swimming in it out.

On the show they talked to the head of the klan at the time. To do this day he still feels the same; that blacks shouldn't be swimming with whites.

Racism still exists. It's just now forced to be hidden. Try being a young black male (or immigrant mexican male) and renting an apartment or applying for certain jobs in certain states/cities.
