video of soldier tossing puppy off cliff

It is unfortunate but war will change a person. Everybody sitting at their PC thinks their mind is so strong, they are sooooo determined. You just have no idea how any sort of trauma will change your life... Imagine that the soldier who tossed that puppy had just seen a guy he went thru basic training with get blown to bits the day before. When a cop shoots his gun, he gets time off and therapy. When a soldier sees a friend bleed to death in front of him... He has to handle the corpse himself and write to the guy's family... Or mail his departure letter...
I'm not justifying what he did, it was cruel. The real issue I think we should really be worried about the mental health of ALL of our soldiers coming home.

On his myspace page, in response to the outrage everyone felt about the incident, he didn't mention any particulars about seeing anyone being killed, etc. On the contrary, he whined about how unfair it was that people were being mean to him when another soldier shot a dog in the stomach and didn't get in trouble for it.

I just think this guy is a piece of work who was trying to impress his little idiot friends.

This is the army, not some rocket scientists boy club. Expect some fucked up behavior when you have school dropouts...

I'm not going to pretend to know the truth because I don't. You could be totally right about him. I mean, he did look like he didn't care and maybe still acts like it. Either way, I think its a fact war is fucked up and fucks with people's minds.

... If my best friend was killed in front of me in combat, and I did something shameful and stupid as a result of having a hard time cooping with the loss, or my mind being clouded with grief. I personally, would have a hard time even speaking about my dead friend and this shameful incident in the same conversation. Trying to relate the two would feel like too much of an insult in most people's eyes... Just something to think about.

I don't consider him a good, decent soldier. I consider him a sociopath. Look, normal people don't enjoy torturing puppies. You can be proud of yourself and feel yourself to be superior all you want because you equate being heartless to being "cool" and rational." I really don't view the fact that I have a heart and a conscience as a detriment.

See, calling me "heartless" because i don't care about a puppy is just another example of how silly and irrational you are; you don't even know me or how i treat the people in my life. Your definition of heartless is not valuing a cute puppy more than the rest of the animals whose plight you ignore. You have no more heart and conscience than the rest of us, just the same selfish and inconsistent morality as every one else but with different values.

Posting his info on this board was fucked up. You are not saving any puppies by doing so, he was instructed to kill them anyway. The fact that he enjoyed it upset you, so you are being vindictive. The truth of the matter is you want to see that soldier incarcerated because on some level you have are terrified to have somebody like that coexist on the same planet as your son. Even though he will never encounter him, you would rather just ruin his life right now than take the chance. You would kill to save your son's life, and you would try to protect your son if he was the one who threw a puppy off a cliff, so why act like you are special in any way?

Extra points on the civil service exam.

Nothing will happen. Move on.

The marines marketing machine suffered a setback in it's image. And cuz of that, they'll make him pay (trust me, they don't give a fuck about a puppy!) and make him pay good.

But other than that - people will forget and move on. Here's a shocker: American GI's have been killing fellow soldiers, dogs, civilians and even raping girls and boys for DECADES! Oh No! Stop the presses!

17 y/o's with guns from poor neighborhoods - what do you expect? Set the requirement to be a marine, to need a degree. All this goes away. You also won't have any sizable military.
