Video Editing - need help

Someone give me the 101 on video editing. I just need to cut portions of videos and re-arrange them and and add some music, possible some effects...

what programs should I use (free)?

where can i find some instructions on how to use them?

Windows movie maker is probably already installed and pretty simple to use. pretty much just drag and drop.

On the top right corner (Softonic in your language) you can change the language into English.

Sony Vegas has a few versions depending on how deep you want to get. I have HD Platinum 10 and it has plenty of options.

Plus it has a tutorial installed which will help get you started.

If you've never edited before, I'd suggest you try the Windows Movie Maker Mitch suggested. Looks like you can add a vocal, music, and title track plus some limited stock transition effects.

You can use one audio track to alternate between dialogue and sound effects and save the other for music track.

You can find some free-use music at freemusicarchive.org and some free sound effects at freesound.org.

i think you can get is real cheap used on ebay, but try getting Sony Vegas HD studio or whatever that cheap version is called. It's REAL easy and powerful.
