Ok cheesy narration by me. What is sweet about this is that besides my buddy who was with me (you can see him way down at the bottom of that basin at the start) no other tracks had been made on that run. It was early in the day and my first day in the season so I'm just getting warmed up. I take my glove off to hold my camera so it gets cold fast! This is a cheesy camera for taking pictures and I can't see what I am recording, so all in all its a poor quality vid, but its me.

so do you rent a hotel/cabin for stays?
how much does a ski weekend at that resort set a nizzle back?

This trip cost me $20 a night for lodging, but that included breakfast and dinner! I got a hookup with a ski/snowboard league for all southern california colleges. I get a place to stay, and I didn't even have to pay for lift tickets (got a couple comped ones).

So this weekend set me back 2 tanks of gas, $70, plus $60 for 3 nights. I bought a round of drinks at the bar $50, and some lunches $30. All in all I'm out $200 or so, no biggie.

This next trip I am paying my own way, I will split the gast with more people so $50 for gas, $200 for lodging, $200 for food and booze. I still have a hookup on lift tickets though so I save a bunch there. This upcoming 3 day weekend will run me $500 which is typical.

Vail, I am going for 5 nights. $1400 + food and drinks so nearly $2000 for that 5 night trip when all is said and done.

damn, that's cheap...the same weekend skiing in MI is gonna cost the same if not more...and the hills are a lot less, to say the least.
that's mammoth right? how long of a drive...how far outta SD untill you hit snow/mtns

vail is so freakin expensive, glad I live close.
is vail that great of a resort? i assumed it was the "vail" name that made it such a great place, not necesarily the skiing

my favorite mountain by far... you could ski there all season and only ski a 3rd of the mountain. Tons of huge bowls, dozens of restaurants...

The only bad thing is that it has a lot of catwalks which really suck for snowboarders if it's a powder day especially.

its 400 miles total. 6-7 hours is typical. on really popular weekends at peak times it can take 10 hours or more :worried:

You don't see snow until you are almost there, most of it is desert type areas or foothills

so you drive from denver to vail for a day of riding? you don't stay in vail?
how far of a drive and how much do you spend for a day.
do you go every weekend?
is their cheaper housing outside the city? be balling to have a weekend place there

It was crazy when I'd be in Reno, it would be 80 and sunny in the desert, yet 30 minutes to the top of Mt. Rose it's 20 degrees and about five feet of snow. Crazy.

my pass for the season was $419 and includes breckenridge, keystone, vail, beaver creek, and arapahoe basin.

It's 100 miles to vail from denver... usually with 2 other people so $15-20 for diesel, can spend $50 in food and drinks or just $5 bringing my own food and drink.

Keystone is 67 miles
Breck is 75-80 miles
A basin is 65 miles
Beaver creek is 105 miles.

Winter Park is around 60 miles but it's some nasty fucking switchbacks getting over berthoud pass.

so you drive up there and back i n the same day? 100 miles isn't bad at all for a day trip in my opinion.

yeah, day trip usually, but vail has a kick ass night scene also. going west on I70 you usually can go 80+ if you're in a group of traffic, there was a time last year when me, beefcake 28, and a friend of mine from arkansas made it there in an hour and 10 minutes going 100+ the whole way.

That is so cool. Looks like a lot of fun. I want to go play in the snow so bad.

no snow anywhere in TX?

Stefka said:
When I was little it snowed in Dallas, but I don't think it snows there anymore.
there are no mountains anywhere in that huge state that get snow?

Stefka said:
Texas is pretty flat.
wow, I knew it was mostly flatlands and plains, but I figured with all that area there had to be SOME mountain. Even Arizona, which is predominantly desert, gets snow in their mountains up in and around flagstaff.

all my buddies are going to the snow in japan shortly (bastards, i couldnt go...then again ive never boarded so id probabaly fall in a crevasse or something lol) ill see if some of them can take some vids to pass on...theyre funny bastards also lol

Nah way up north tends to get some snow, but I don't even think that is much. We got some flurries down here in the south few years ago that left snow on the roof tops and everyone thought that was the coolest thing.

there is some skiing/snowboarding in australia though, why not go there?

I have a 3 day trip scheduled later this month to Snow Shoe, West Virginia with a bunch of friends. There will be lots of beer drinking, smoking dope and partying.......and that's only the drive up there! lol

Fahk, that's a long drive. I'm 4 miles from the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon which is where Brighton and solitude are, and 9 miles fron Little Cottonwood Canyon, which is where Snowbird and Alta are. Park City and The Canyons are maybe 30 miles, and the farthest resort worth going to is Snow Basin, which is where they had the Olympic downhill. I think that's maybe 40 miles.

Too much driving for that sheet.
