I have the nastiest pain under my right rib cage and I have been getting faint as hell the past couple of days. . I am pretty sure I have an inflamed liver and I pray to god it is not Hepatitis C.

why you think it is hep C of all things? are you an IV drug user and shared needles, had unprotected sex...? hep C may not show symptoms for years and years after infection. it is a very serious, life threatening illness. ( Pamela Anderson has hep C).

I just, well about a year now, got through treatment for hep C. What will happen first with your liver is, it will start producing liver enzymes like there's no tomorrow. You will have absolutely no strength and will get exhausted from just doing simple things. What happens is the hep C attacks liver cells by attaching itself to the cell membrane, since the virus is a form of a protein, and will penetrate the cell, taking it over and producing more virus, thus not allowing the cell to function properly and it will "leak" enzymes in the blood stream. A blood test has to be done that looks specifically for the hep C virus of which there are three different kinds. Americans, predominately have the worse kind.

If you do have it, you will more than likely be put on what they call a "combination therapy" a peg-intron injection (pegulated interferon, that is interferon protein chains tied together by fatty acids, to make one very long chain, hence making it more efficient over the old verison) and rebetol, an anti-virial medication in capsule form that is taken twice a day. I won't lie to you, by the end of the year, you will feel you're near death; but it's worth it. The rebetol was the worse thing. When I took it, I would, within a half hour, have a 2 to 3 degree fever; and that's twice a day!

Like I said, it's not fun, but the alternative (DEATH) isn't either.

ANY QUESTIONS?

I have no reason to believe it is hepatitis other than the symptoms I am having. Is IV drug use the only way you can catch it? You think it might accidently get put in there from a lab that does not follow the proper safety precautions.

This is from this web site http://www.umm.edu/liver/common.htm: along with a pain in my right rib cage I match the "liver encephalopathy" section closest. I am pretty sure I am paranoid, but once my mind drifts off and starts thinking about this morbid shit its hard to think about something else.

Don't jump to conclusions! You guys forgot to list AIDS Cancer Polio the resurgence of the Plauge, and Genital Herpes. Holy Shit if this isn't the most negative thread I ever read. There are quite a few things that could cause your liver to swell. Hepatitus A,B,C are title as such because they cause the condition of Hepatitus (a swollen liver), along with many other illnesses and conditions that are not serious And not Hepatitus A-Z, nor even permanently damaging at all. Like I said earlier in this thread I just had mono, that gave me hepatitus, my liver will be 100% again in another two weeks, no damage. As well you should be happy that its not your liver crapping out! Hep is only temporary swelling in the vast majority of cases, not serious just go easy on it, drink lots of water, and it will clear up. And most importantly, do not jump to the conclusions of a bunch of guys on a thread, as there are MANY things that could cause it. Let your doctor figure it out FOR SURE, and relax. Getting really freaked out about it won't help. But hey feel better man!!
