Trucks, who's got one (GUY STUFF, MEATHEAD TALK)

Lambruh

New member
i'm sick of swirving around in snow with my car, now looking to buy a 4x4, ones that can fit a ATV in the back.

Ford, Chevy, Toyota? I'm looking into the new F150 right now

debate

I have an 04 Chevy 2500 crew cab. I couldnt be happier. With the prices on trucks these days, you can pick one up with some milage on it pretty cheap.

i got a ford ranger, lifted with big stupid tires and rims.
great all around truck for a 4.0.
base model f150 with the small v8 would serve you just fine.
another option would be a dodge dakota with the 8 cylinder.
smaller and better for city driving/parking, good gas mileage for a v8,
pretty much bullet proof and easy to pimp out with a lift/exhaust/tires
don't no shit about foreign trucks though

IMO toyotas and chevy's come off the lot looking more like small girlie trucks. Fords and Dodges look much better coming off the lot. No lifts and tires needed for those two.

still not a whole lot of clearance, esp if you get the gayeass step rail thingie.
a 3" lift should be mandatory for anyone planning on doing even the slightest offroading.

06' GMC Sierra Pro Sport edition
corsa stainless steel exhaust
side steps
bed cover
rain guards
22" factory chromes(on denalies)

All Alpine for sound
12 inch custom box under seats
siiiiiiick stereo

second set of winter tires
will post pics in April when I put my rims on
otherwise it looks plain jane

true dat

BTW I am a big fan of foreign cars
but you can't go wrong with a nice chevy or GMC truck

I've owned three and overall have been extremely pleased
I do baby my vehicles, but I never have any issue

Toyota makes a nice truck no in the Tundra

I just am too loyal

nice bro.
the problem i have with this rim size, though, is that you basically limit what you can do with the vehicle offroad wise...looks good on the road, but def worthless off.
i have made this mistake...18" wheels with a meat tire is a better look for a truck imo.

my winters are 17's perfect in the snow
my ride looks badass with the chromes

what about snowplowing, hauling mulch, salt spreader etc..?

my wife has an 03 nissan xterra. but its only 2wd. i just gave my 94 s10 to my little brother because he's hurting and needs a vehicle for work. now I'm looking for a trailer to haul my dirtbikes on when we go riding.

then i wouldn't buy a new truck
def don't need any sort of clearance for what your talking about...fug if it wasn't for the plow you could get by with a two wheeler.
but plowing is hard on the front end, all that weight.
i wouldn't want to do that to a new truck but if you got the money fug it.
i'd keep your car for summer pimping and buy a used f150 with some miles on it.

in vegas everyone has jacked up trucks
and it's not even cowboys/'necks...seen brothas/mexxiccans driving huge trucks
i see f250/350s like this everytime i go down into the valley.
proly 15-20k in suspension and tires.
completely pointless but sick

It's a queen truck for the mostpart
I'm not afraid to toss shit in the bed if needed (firewood and work usage)

Lambruh, you need a 2500 series to handle a plow

f150 with the bigger liter cylinders would work, esp for the midlevel amount of snow he will deal with in chi/cleveland.
autotrader and cars.com are good sites to search

good point
north east is heavy, wet snow
need heavy duty trucks
still, a plow is gonna wreck a stock F 150 in a few years
If you don't plan on owning for that long

Most F150s overtime are not durable trucks

cheap though.
maybe lambruh would be better served buying a used disel.
get one with high miles, 150k or so, for around 20k.
more upkeep costs but he can keep it around for longer

2001 chevy silverado 1500 extended cab + ice = very bad. my insurance has the bill to prove it...

cheap=crap sometimes
not sayin all ford is junk

Trucks are still a STEAL, and go with Binos advice and buy slightly used (do a carfax report)
That way, you are not the ones taking a bath

entry level truck for entry level cost
and it's gonna take entry level abuse.
plowing heavy snow for 2-3 winters and the front end will be fuct.
now spend more and get a f350 diesel, i doubt you will be the one driving it on it's final miles, long sold by then.

this guy at my work has a 2004 F150 with 140k, Triton V8, 4x4, shortbed

He wants to get rid of it for $6000, I'm thinking about just buying it and using it as some side job plowing in the winter, and pulling a equip trailer

bino, my dad's cummins dodge has 250k miles, he'll drive it for 5 more years at least. It's a farm truck too, and sees a lot of trailers

yeah the fram will rust away long before the cylinders crack.
my coworker claims his 2008 dodge diesel is good for a million miles

get him down to 5k
goodtogo.
check and see if the valves on the motor are leaking oil.
might wanna do a rebuild

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado... LOVE it. A while back, I managed to roll the thing... Yeah, seriously. Rolled it. Now, the body is beat up a bit (insurance wouldn't cover it because I was on a dirt road in Wyoming. STRONG WTF?), but the damn thing still runs perfectly I'll always buy Chevy just because of that... Damn things great run no matter what ya do to 'em. That said, my next truck will def be a Duramax.

Just sayin'.

(waiting for juicedpiggytails to quote this so he can talk about his truck towing mine out of a field while idling)

I wouldn't spend 6k on a 150 with that many miles, esp if you want to plow snow with it. Get a 3/4 or 1 ton with a straight front axle. They can take way more weight and abuse. One more thing is the pick-ups when empty SUCK on ice. The rear end is so light it wants to come around on you. Best put a few hundred pounds of sand in the back. The it can be used as needed for traction etc.

I have a 02 F350 diesel 4x4 and pull a 40' toy hauler with it. I don't think I'd trust much else. If you want a nice ride but not heavy duty that F150 would be fine.

excuse my n00bery, but don't all new trucks have IFS?

Check to see if your local County/State DOT Road Maintenance has auctions where they sell/auction heavy duty equipment to the public. The vehicle will be heavy duty and setup for this stuff. Yea, it will be basic work trucks and not pimped out, maybe have some miles on it, but it will also probably have been well maintained.

unless you are hardcore about offroading, str8 axle seems like overkill for the avg dutchbag.
though it'd be fun at times, esp the electronic lockers

i drive a lot and will take IFS over straight axle any day. 3/4 IFS is bumpy enough without adding the straight axle ride to it.

My 08 at work is str8 axle F350 & the 250's are too. The 1/2 tons are IFS.

PS if you want a nice ride IFS in 1/2T is way nicer. I had a 1/2t Silverado and even with the 4x and off road package it road nice, but they are NOT a working truck.
