training with implants

meli

New member
will training like i did pre-op distort my implants?? i am 5mths post and have been doing light chest but i deff want to go heavier..anyone else train with implants?

Meli, did you go over or under the muscle?
If you are very athletic it is best to go over the muscle. I was not aware of this prior to surgery and decided that I wanted to go under the muscle.
I noticed that mine started to change shape when I was lifting last year. (My typical chest workout would be 4-5 exercises, 4sets, 8-10reps, once a week.) I have not done chest in over a year, and feel that they look a lot better now than they did last year.
Some shoulder exercises do work your chest slighty. I do have female friends that went over the muscle and they do not seem to have the same problems when they lift that I do. I guess it also depends on the intensity of your chest workout. If you hit the weights really hard then you might experience more difficulties than your average female with implants that casually worksout at a lower intensity

dont agree. Most fitness/ figure gals go under the muscle & hit the weigths very hard- including me. I havenet had any changes in shape- actually they look better when lifting @ heavy intensities than going hi reps. I started training about 6 wks post-op & training heavy about 10 wks.. no problems for me :)

My wife is going in next month for implants and the over/under the muscle has been her biggest question mark. She lifts heavy in all exercises and is concerned about a few things. First of all being a first timer for implants she has to have saline implants versus silicon. Second she has done a couple of bodybuilding shows which naturally means she has to lean out. Her concern if she goes over is rippling when being lean? Her concern if she goes under is when lifting, will it distort, or will they move. Right now she is of the mind set to go over so she can lift heavy and not have distortion or movement. Any thoughts on this would definitely be helpfull???

First check w/ your selected doctor - some of them have a specific preference. I don't know if you've done an extensive check of your available docs yet - you should have a consult w/ at least a few before making a decision. Also you may physically just not be able to do overs. If you are small & maybe don't have enough skin to cover the implants, they will recommend you go w/ the unders.

I got unders (425 cc & 475 cc) in Jan 2000 and started training for my first BB competition in April. Like MsB said, it takes a good 4-6 weeks to really be able to have full range motion w/o hurting the implants. I'd already been training for several years and your same comment about "can i train chest" or "will this impact my ability to build my pec muscles", my doc said no. I started back to the gym around 3-4 weeks out just doing cardio (walking on the treadmill) because I didnt' have full range torso motion w/o pain. At 2 months I was doign most of my regular training routine except chest primarily because of the muscle tightness & scar tissue while my body was adjusting to accommodating the implants under the muscle & letting the whole thing heal. For ex doing bench press made my chest feel really tight. Also when my pec muscles were engaged for a lift or a pull, they woud start twitching. That was sort of annoying.

Anyway, here I am 5 yrs later & 3 BB competitions later - I haven't noticed any development issues w/ my chest. At very low bodyfat (e.g. 7-8% I see some rippling along the edges of the implants but nothing bad unless I'm runnign around nekkid. You dont' see it in a posing suit.

One thing I will note about unders & chest presses or any motions that engage your chest - you will see the implants sort of look funny because they are getting stretched. I don't consider that an issue tho.

They've made a huge difference in my life - not so much that I feel better about myself, more just less conscious of my weak bustlline that I used to have and just more symmetry in general because I have broad shoulders & hips. As a competitor it also makes a big difference in maintaining a symmetry as well because you dont' lose implants when you lose bodyfat :)

I am getting implants in May, and going over the muscle. Quite a few of the fitness/figure/physique girls in the UK are having them taken out from under the muscle and put on top.

I will be getting something like 370 cc possibly 410 cc (surgeon will have 3 sizes and see which ones will fit!!!) liquid silicon gel.

One of the finalist in the Brits this year (who had under) ended up with hers in her armpit!!!

I have seen 4 plastic surgeons so far, and all but one (who I thought was a complete tosser even though he is on the telly all the time) said to go over the muscle.

I have been told that eventually, with hard training, the muscle will push the implant down, give it a 'cut in half shape'!

The surgeon that I like best so far, will put part of the implant under the pectoral muscle fascia, but not the muscle.

THere is no guarentee that you will not see the outline of the implant even if you go under the muscle.

Implants are different in the UK as we can still use silicon. I am pretty sure I will go with liquid gel instead of cohesive gel as the round cohesive gel ones may end up having that 'stuck on' look as they will always be round.
