Just wanted to take a poll on how many of you EFers train by yourself compared to those who train solo.

the benefits of training solo are - a quicker workout, no one to slow you down, work at your own pace, always do the exercises YOU want to do

the benefits of training with others - more support to drive you more and push you harder, possible better mental focus, someone to spot you, a better MM connection with someone to correct your mistakes and flaws

feel free to add anything.

i used to train with a partner a few times in my life.
i prefer that.

training alone now.

Solo for sure, I talk to the guys at the gym quite a bit but only between sets and not all the time, most of the time i just plug in my ear phones and loose myself

yes EM, but when you have a badass partner who lifts CRAZY and yells at you to get 10 more when your dead it can really make a difference.
i probably got way more better workouts with the partner than from music.

Yah in the same way I would never turn down being able to train with SaiBoT, SL, BK, b fold and some other...

...maybe even that iggy n00b but Id feel bad being so much stronger I guess it would just make him look weak :( lol j/k

hahahah. i'm a good partner.
some people give up on me after a couple of workouts
and say i push them "too hard"
bunch of pussies if you asked me.

i was training a 5'2 320lb 40%bf lump of fatness my junior year.
kid was the laziest ever. nice, but lazy.

i told him i would powerclean x10 whatever reps he did.

he did 6, so i did 60.
after 3 sets he gave up and walked out of the gym.

but i have had a few people who stuck with me and had gains.

so i might become a real personal trainer.

only not until i become massive and cut though.

gotta sell yourself at that job

Yep theres this guy that I used to train with loads, then he told me he wanted to cut (bare in mind this guy was like 5 foot 10, less than 155lbs to start, trained with me just doing the heavy basics for 3 months probably gained idk 5 or 6 lbs maybe but his lifts increased loads, he wouldnt put any effort into diet exept for drinking more milk cuz he liked milk. Then he tryed to cut by just barely going to the gym and did one cardio session in a month lol. He then came back to the gym for 1 workout, went on holiday and then hardly came back, now everytime i ask him about the gym he says he cant be arsed and doesnt know if be will ever go back. What a cockhead.

you'll meet all different kinds of people in your life.
a phenominal training partner is hard to find.
i've had one, a couple good ones, and a lotta bad ones. lol

I have various workout partners, a skinny bastard, a fat geek, my girlfriend, my best friend, his girlfriend, my best friend got freaking huge working out under my rules in one year, that now his friends seek my guidance (i could make a few bucks if I had some kind of license), I have taken so many people to the iron game that even the gym managers offered me a discount and stuff like that ( all I wanted was a new squat rack but whatever) As Extramile I also have met my fair share of fucktards throughout my gym life, those come and go, thing is after a while you will be able to spot these and learn to ignore them, it's the best way.

Working out with a partner it's the best there is and what I enjoy the most it's motivating others, the way i see it. "Thou shall not train like a bitch!" "Those who can, do! Those who can't, teach!"

Training Partner. I have been training with my partner for 10 years consistantly. I scooped him up when I saw him training a client at a local gym. he is 14 years younger then me and helps keep me young and strong. We also picked up a third about a year ago when I hired Dave Fisher (90's pro bodybuilder) To bring us to the next level in knowledge. He is now our third partner in which we all train 8am monday through Friday religiously together. If one of us is out it kind of throws a wrench in the system and the session isnt the same. That's why we don't let any of us miss unless it is absolutely neccesary. Workouts are Excellent every day!! Training with these two is the high point of my day.

With a partner, definetely. I have even had different w/o partners depending on if I was cutting or bulking....

Unfortunately no w/o partner now; Hard to find someone who can get to the gym 5:45 am every day and I do a ton of supersetting and some unique exercises that guys are somewhat reluctant to try

I had one workout partner about a year back who was in town only for the summer from getting his masters at Tennesse in medicine, he had a part time job at one of the clubs near the college as a bouncer, I was 17 he was 25, I was 225, he was 240 (but he was like 8% body fat if that), those two months consisted of what where probably some of the best workouts of my life, I've never worked out with anyone else since...

I train at my best when with a partner or group of people. I tend to lose motivation when training alone.

^^^ the 3 man rotation is one of my favorites, this way there is one guy going, one guy spotting, and one guy resting

I train alone....but I really wish I had someone to train with. I just know I could do more if someone was pushing me for the final few reps.

I just can't find anyone who wants to work out as much as I do, and at 5:30am. I even offered to pay for my buddy's gym membership if they would commit to my training schedule...so far no offers.

At my stage of training (32 years at age 50) there are too many exercises which don't feel right. With a training partner I'd end up doing exercises that were no good for me and I'd end up getting injured. The forced reps would end up causing injuries too.

I'm very motivated training alone and don't need pushing. If anything, I push too hard as it is.

I hope reaching 50 and still got it in the gym.

I'm still addicted to going as heavy as possible and I'm often on the knife's edge of pushing it too far and causing injury.

LOL! I would probably do well with a training partner shouting "Take it easy, go lighter...one less rep!"

I train alone because of my work schedule and have to go at different times throughout the day. I have made great gains but I feel like I would make even bigger gains if I had someone always pushing me. I can normally do 3 more reps of any certain weight if someone is just standing behind me. I hate and do not like making someone help me with a lift or last rep. The guys in the gym always say "man you didnt need my help" because I will get someone to spot me on heavy bench and tell them I'm going for 6 reps and normally end up doing ten without needing any help.

I did have an awesome training partner years ago and he moved to the other side of town, been solo ever since.

It really varies for me...even day to day, depending on my mood (I'm with a partner about 80% of the time). Sometimes I really need the extra push and motivation that comes from a partner. Then other times, I'm so pumped on my own, it really doesn't make a huge difference. I think altogether though, I'd much rather have the accountability and motivation that comes from a steady training partner.

It depends on the type of training for me..

i can get in the gym and train very heavy alone.. but when it comes to doing endurance training sets of 20... a partner seems to make about a 20% difference..

I train solo. If I could find someone with similar goals who could train at a similar time...they would be welcome. I train mornings at my personal gym. I'm always pushed for time as well.

If you have a partner that knows how to help you (spot, verbal cues, is psycho and intelligent) then having one is a great thing.

Much prefer training with someone else. Maybe not when doing arms or shoulders so much, but i could never pound out six sets of heavy squats solo - i would'nt want to find myself needing a spot half way through that last rep!

I like lifting alone. I don't need to rely on someone and no one needs to rely on me. I put my headphones on and drown everybody out. I hate distractions at the gym and I just feel a training partner is a distraction.
