i partally (i hope) tore a muscle in my forarm..it hurts like a bitch! i cant grab anything or flex my bi without being in major pain. the exrays on my arm were negitve. this happened believe it or not while arm wrestling.
has this happened to anyone here? how long recovery time am i looking at here? and do these things ever require surgery. THIS SUCKS PLEASE HELP!

Hard to say, you could have torn a tendon, age is a factor in how fast you will recover. What did the Dr say?

i just went to the er for exrays..i have to follow up with another md tom. how can you tell if its a tendon or muscle? also do any of these require surgery|?
thanks radar!

Tendon tears are usually at the myotendinous junction of the tendon and the muscle. Muscles tears are in the belly of the muscle. Surgery is usually required with a grade 3 tear (complete rupture), physical therapy can help grade 1 & 2 tears. Depending on the loss of function or appearance of the muscle you may choose to have surgery or not. See what the Doc says. You would be best to have an MRI done. Also if doing rehab make sure you have a competent therapist who understands your goals and activities and not some treatment monkey who will open the book and see what it says is normal ROM & functioning - most athletes want or need beyond normal couch potato ROM and strength.

Remember the treatment can be only as good as the assessment!

Good luck!

Supreme's word is truth.....

He's right about this.

You are gonna be MIA for awhile, but just concentrate on your recovery.

Thanks!!!

I have learned from expereince and extensive study that the only thing a PT can do (for the most part - there are some excepetions) that a good corrective exercise specialist/ trainer can't do is : apply ultrasound, electro-stim and prescribe orthotics or braces. Most PT's treat the symptom, not the source - its not always their fault, some have no sports knowledge whatsoever or they are limited to a pre-determined # of visits by insurance. Treating the symptom to alieviate pain must come first and then the source, unfortunately most people run out of visits and leave with only a partial cure.

well that sucks! anyways appreciate the reply. i was at the md earlier today and his intial diagnosis is i have damaged some muscle fiber. he said im going to have to try and build it up when the pain subsides (and i have just the aids to help with that) but he referd me to a specialist for further evaluation.

has anyone here ever damaged muscle fiber? (i thought i did this everytime i worked out and the protien help rebuild it) but i guess this is different. he did say however i did not tear the muscle all the way through so surgery don't seem likley.
please share anything you can so i know what i can expect with this rehab.

when i start to feel good enough to train again how does a nnp/sust cycle sound for building some new muscle?

Microtears in the muscle fiber from working out are different than a trauma induced muscle tear.......you'll have to let the healing take place and work in rehab before you can go back to your regular weightlifting workouts.

Rehab will entail building up the muscles around the area in order to provide a support structure which enables healing. Forget cycles for now......it would be better to just keep your diet STR8 and focus on getting healthy.
