Well, long story short, cancer relies on igf-1 to survive. Apparenly, cancer is rampant growth, so it needs something crazy to keep it "active" I guess you could say, and igf is that. Basically, cancer dies without elevated igf-1 levels. From what ive heard, the future of cancer treatments lies in blocking the igf-1 receptors, choking the cancer to death. Whats stoping them? Not much, except for the fact that igf receptors are almost identical in shape and size to insulin receptors. So the problem becomes finding a compound that fits the igf lock but not insulins. Im sure a very real cure for cancer is just around the corner. Time will tell.
