Todd Bertuzzi should be thrown out of the NHL and jailed

I predict the NHL resolves this with a Fox special "Celebrity Cheap Shots" starring Gary Suter, Scott Niedermayer, Marty McSorley, and Todd Bertuzzi

Perhaps we're not but are you saying that it isn't reasonable to compare the so-called 'major sports'? (I say so-called because due to decades of idiocy in the NHL offices, it doesn't warrant major sport status when compared with the NBA and NFL)

The NBA and especially the NFL can be rough sports and although there are occasionally fights, neither league seems to think they need to allow one-on-one fist fights 'to keep them from taking out their frustrations with cheap shots etc.'.

Fighting in hockey is part of the game...always will be....always should be. It provides entertainment.....the fan base of hockey declined when the instigator rule was made.

Take bumping, rubbing annd crashing out of Nascar and watch that fall too.

The fan base of hockey may be on the wane (due to the extreme boredom induced by watching a game, not the instigator rule being removed) but it has never historically been close to that of the major sports. They have never even had a major U.S. television network deal.

IMO opinion it is an extremely exciting sport to watch...but we have the Red Wings, who open the game up.

Why do you insist on comparing the NHL to major markets like the NFL and NBA....nobody is arguing that it is not as popular. The arguement is fighting...and it being part of the history and the game.

BTW....Bertuzzi's "sentence" is light in my opinion...he was not even fined...the team was.

Word. On all points.

I'm comparing it because the NHL needs to wake up and adopt a different model. It needs to look at the success of the NFL and NBA and decide how they can improve their standing and their image.

I love hockey and I hate how boring it has become with all the hooking, holding, neutral zone trap, dump the puck in bullshit.

They need to give harsher penalties for fighting (not ban it entirely) and start calling the rule book properly on all the hooking, holding and impediment type infractions. Then they need to either enlarge the rinks or go to 4 on 4 hockey to negate the effectiveness of the neutral zone trap and open the game up. Then people can see hockey for the skilled and beautiful game it is and business/popularity issues will fall into place.

I agree. Many hockey players are thugs. The NBA has nothing on hockey. The last time I checked, assault was a serious offense. I would never play that game, the first time some asshole did me that way, I'm afraid that I'd beat him to death.

Exactly right Beastboy hockey wouldn't be half as interesting with out the fighting.
I feel like the sentence was just right yes he didn't get fined but he is losing his pay for being suspended. I don't agree with what he did at all but part of reason hockey is so exciting has to do with the power forwards like Bertuzzi.
This game is not for Sissy's hence why Canadians like it and play it more often then Americans! :lmao: J/K

Hockey will always be a rough and tough game, that's going to happen regardless when you have the size of players and speed the game is played at. However, they need to eliminate the rest of the bullshit so that the skill required to play hockey is more evident. The way it is played right now, the least talented goon can play on nearly equal footing with the top echelon stars and that's not right. You shouldn't be able to keep someone contained by breaking the rules just because you don't have the speed and or skill to keep up.
