Todd Bertuzzi should be thrown out of the NHL and jailed

He didn't get a fine personally as the max fine is something like 2000US dollars max. At least he won't get paid his salary. I hope he doesn't play again.

He was a big fucking coward and doesn't deserve to play the game.

I have no prob with fighting, but I was taught while playing you fought like a man and squared off with the guy! Not sucker punch him like that.

I agree 100%!

The way it is played right now, the least talented goon can play on nearly equal footing with the top echelon stars and that's not right. You shouldn't be able to keep someone contained by breaking the rules just because you don't have the speed and or skill to keep up.

I don't agree even the big boys have to have some skill and talent. You can't just send some big MOFO out there and say beat the crap out of everyone.

I'm not necessarily talking about that although I would say yes you can and pretty much every team has at least one player whose express purpose is fighting and or intimidation.

If everyone has so much skill and talent why do we see so much hooking and holding? Because the lesser skilled player (say Tie Domi) knows he can impede a faster, more skilled player (Peter Forsberg) by holding his jersey or hooking him without being penalized. You think that is right? Wouldn't you rather see the faster, more skilled flow of hockey such as it was in the mid 80's when Gretzky and the Oilers ruled the roost? Hockey was no less 'tough' then but it was a much better and more exciting game.

....Bertuzzi's "sentence" is light in my opinion...he was not even fined...the team was.

well he forfeits over $500,000 in salary, and I think it was right to fine the team as well.

I predict the NHL resolves this with a Fox special "Celebrity Cheap Shots" starring Gary Suter, Scott Niedermayer, Marty McSorley, and Todd Bertuzzi

dont forget dale hunter.

IMO opinion it is an extremely exciting sport to watch...but we have the Red Wings, who open the game up.

Why do you insist on comparing the NHL to major markets like the NFL and NBA....nobody is arguing that it is not as popular. The arguement is fighting...and it being part of the history and the game.

BTW....Bertuzzi's "sentence" is light in my opinion...he was not even fined...the team was.

he's losing over 500,000 dollars in salary that will put into an nhl fund.

You guys are right about the 500K loss of pay....which is enough of a blow.

BluePeter.....there are many rules being contemplated to change make.....I think the lockout next season will cause alot of them go into effect. I.E. Making the goalie fair game out of the crease.....will allow more dumping and forechecking.....which means more offense. -Changing the offside rules to allow a player to exit the zone and re-enter and not get called as long as they don't touch the puck. - Reducing goalie pad sizes. -Doing away with ties. and etc. Here is a link with alot of the ones proposed.

the hooking and holding is out of control and is precisely the reason why i don't watch hockey very much anymore.

how many times do you see a breakaway or 2 on 1 and the defenseman tries to tackle the offensive player rather than play the puck?

Lots if you are a Wings fan.

Hell we got almost as many short handed goals as some teams have power play goals.

I'm well aware but do you have any confidence that the idiots that run the NHL will actually implement any that make a tangible difference? I don't.
