This is the new medicine. Turns-out, it's far cheaper to give someone their choice of hydrocodone or benzodiazopene instead of treating them.

My prediction (you heard it here first) is that 2/3 of the US population will be prescribed one or the other drug (or some close variant) by 2020. They'll be taking them at least 5 days/week.

I'm knot going to continue to go to the doc for my weekly prostate exam without leaving with some sorta prescription in my hand

just sayin'

As long as pharmaceutical sales continue to offer trips for x number of written prescriptions per month, doctors will write them.

I am proud to say the strongest pain pill I have taken was Tylenol3 when I had my wisdom teeth out - that was 30 yrs ago. Damn I am old. Maybe time to start.

there a ton of people who still want to get ahead in the world, and narcotics/benzos are not the way to do it

I'd definitely throw adderal or some other amphetamine into that mix.

The guy I used to go out with would snort adderal before going out to drink.

i actually used to do that too, and it made it WAY easier to get girls. All your inhibitions/insecurity gone, with mental sharpness still in tact

This is a practice they are really attempting to change. I was constantly hearing from my fiance through residency how all of her attending's were very particular with who was getting prescribed narcotics. She has to turn them down constantly and stiff them with an ibuprofen or Tylenol. These are the constant drug seekers with no legitimate pain. This new ideology came about when pharmacuticals company's couldn't meet demand for the high rate of distribution. The primary drug would 'run out' was percocet, thus making them the highest priced street narcotic because of unavailability.

They are trying to curtail prescription drug abuse, but the economics are against them.

If someone wants drugs, they can complain about back pain until one of two things happen:

1) Someone gives them the drugs they want.

2) They finally find an enthusiastic cutter who will do a two level fusion for a mere all-in cost of ~$30,000.

It's the new medicare!

U.S. doctors are too quick to reach for their prescription pads, according to a new report urging them to think more about side effects and non-drug alternatives.

US docs are overprescribing drugs, study finds - Health - Health care - More health news - msnbc.com

pfft...not my doc...when he picks up his scrip pad, it's usually to write down a new supplement that he wants me to take, or to change the daily dose of one of my existing ones...can't remember the last time he actually wrote down a drug on one and sent me to get it filled.
