Thinking about taking Krav Maga

No for real, all this talk about fighting just got me interested, and this school of training just seems awesome. Real world stuff. Of course I'd never use it in real life (unless of course phaded came calling). There is a good school here, its $200 for 8 weeks (16 total classes). It starts basic and builds in complexity and intensity as you get deeper in it.

Advanced topics are things like:
fighting with one arm immobile
defending others
fighting multiple attackers
defending against an attacker with a gun
defending against an attacker with a knife
fighting while dizzy/disoriented

Seems like it would be interesting, anyone have any experience with it?

whatever you "think" you're getting..........forget it.............16 classes is not enough to differentiate fighting styles. It takes YEARS of training for fighting styles to show their differences. Basically, they've come up with some different movements to give the "appearance" of something new and exciting..........like in 8 weeks you'll be an Israeli commando!!!!......

it's all garbage bro...........it's all watered down horseshit.

I've never heard of it but the concept sounds interesting, i say go for it and take many one arm bicept submission pictures.

I agree with RedSamurai... it's take years to master any style and even at that one has to train consistently to maintain one's skills.

Krav is a good style for self defense and street fighting without getting into the mental and spirtual aspects of many of the old traditional martial arts.Take it if you just want to learn some self defense but remember 16 classes will do nothing but show you some moves. You will not master anything and possibly be at greater risk from overconfidence in a real fight.

If you're looking for some sport fun, then try some MMA classes... they won't prepare you for a belt but also not get into all the spiritual. You'll learn some striking and some grappling. It will be great cardio and you'll have fun.

For training... 4 hours training katas and conditioning outside the dojo for every hour in the dojo. I've trained multiple styles starting with boxing at 8 and continueing with BJJ today. I'm 48 in September. I spar every Monday night that I'm not on the road. I hit my heavy bag for 3 rounds every morning that I am home and drill for 30 minutes. I am a total amateur. My sensei is 50 pounds lighter than me and unless I can trap him in the corner and pound on him when we do mma sparring, he will beat me every time. In BJJ... sometimes I can overpower him but most of the time, he out maneuvers me.

ive trained in several styles of fighting but luckily have not had to use it. the guys i used to work with at the club are into MMA stuff and act like bad asses but when it comes down to it they are still pussies. you cant just take a class and think your gonna take on the world. you may learn the basics but you wil have to keep training all the time in order to be proficient at it.

Although Krava Maga is a decent fighting style. I would prefer get 10 of your buddies and cuub-stomp that bitch. If that that didn't work, shoot the mother fuckers.

go with kratom instead. Who gives a shit about fighting? When was your last fight (highschool?), get high and buy a gun, be a real man!

Kratom is awesome! Red Dawn is coming out with a kick ass kratom any day.

I never said I was only going to take 8 weeks of classes, I was just listing that so you could see the price. If I start this I plan on doing it for a few years, you only scratch the surface in the first year.

That and suicide is about the same. I'd rather invest in a good handgun and CCW license if self-defense is really an issue for you.

It's all common sense stuff for the most part, or at least that was my impression of it in the few training classes I took for bouncing. I don't think it's a bad one to learn or anything though. Yeah, I'm not an expert or anything.

I've thought about competing in fighting but don't want to train with anyone - too trendy and expensive and I bet I can teach myself most of it. Just gotta worry about the sparring and practice and crap. Plus, I'd want to talk to someone who does it to get a feel for things, but I don't want to pay them.

ok lemme clarify

im not doing this because I need to defend myself
I would bet I'll never use it in real life

I'm doing it for the following reasons
1) I find the training techniques interesting
2) its a good workout (they pre fatigue you before starting training, and encourage you to attend the NEXT classes warm up drill).

This is stuff that is used by our FBI, law enforcement, and others, not exactly a trendy thing.

Make sure to tell the media this.

Sorry broly, but this fighting/MMA/whatever is a recent trend.

BRB, gotta order the next fighting championship on PPV this weekend.

Could not be more trendy. Every jackass I bounced with back in the day was taking that shit.

I'm not saying it's trendy to an fbi agent or a military man or whatever, I am saying it is trendy to anybody who is not.

I think its pretty cool, i think things like Tai Kwon Do are trendy, they made a movie called "The Karate Kid" and what.. 3 shitty sequels?!?!

take the class dude....who gives a shit if it's trendy. maybe one day it will keep you from having your jaw broken or something....plus the other benefits you listed earlier. if you want to do it, just do it.

i keep telling myself i'm gonna do something similar one of these days, but it keeps getting sidetracked

There's nothing wrong with being into martial arts, broly. But at this point in time, fighting/MMA stuff is a trend. You can't deny that.

BRB, gotta get back to watching the all-day Fight Night marathon on TV.

Right on, and I'm not saying it isn't cool. I'm just saying it's popular right now. Get into it man, why not? If I had the money, I'd consider it but only because the competition side of things intrigues me. Also, I want to hit somebody more and more all the time.
