I've always been a firm beliver that if you leave your heart on the gym floor (high intensity, ass kicking lifting sessions), that's only 1/3 of the game. the other 2/3 is diet.... spending all the rest of your time in the kitchen and as you post says it's very time critical and scientific, quality post!
Eating a slower burning form of protein like chicken or beef post-workout is missing the mark completely. It is impossible to take advantage of the post-workout window with a protein food source that will take 2 hours to hit your bloodstream.
People that preach this "window of opportunity" stuff act like you're not eating for the rest of the day. How about eating some beef or chicken BEFORE the workout? If protein in the bloodstream is so important right after a workout then it's pre-workout nutrition that matters most (and even that pales in comparison to the importance of being consistent over ALL of your daily meals). It's not like whey is digested instantaneously.
whey and high-GI carbs spike the body's insulin levels. Doing this right after a workout is just perfect timing. Eating a steak or a chicken breast before a workout won't do the same thing.
