The police. What are YOUR thoughts?

Well, you know what I think. I say Fuck the police. There are a lot of really good cops, but there will always be bad and corrupt ones. And it only takes a few bad ones to mess everything up. And nowadays, American cops have a SERIOUS problem with use of excessive and unnecessary force. I don’t hold a grudge against the police, and actually have some friends that are cops. But there is a reason why cops get no respect.

I generally like police officers.

They don't bother me. I don't bother them. They take care of situations I find I do not desire or approve of. My money pays for that.

Cool.

never there when you need them, like when you get lost in Ybor and someone tells you to get out of your car cause they want it........

I have utter contempt for the way traffic ticket revenue is harvested. They always hang at a place where the speed limit is 10mph lower than it should be and almost EVERYBODY with a life is speeding.

People going 10 mph over the limit is NOT the problem on our streets. Most limits are rediculous considering the improvements in automobile handling and brakes.

But then I'm mad at a lot of things.

Why do they refuse to show you the damned radar gun numbers? Bullshit in my opinion.

I respect their authority as long as they dont abuse it. To those who said "fuck the police" or something along those lines, I suggest you take a trip to Mogadishu where there is absolutely no form of law and order whatsoever.

That has nothing to do with the police. That's you being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm not a big fan. Even though they do do good and are necessary, I think they are overrated weasels who destroy as much, probably more, as they protect. I'm referring to police & prosecutors (who are basically 2 sides of the same coin) in general and on a global level, not just US police & prosecutors.

The greatest criminals on the planet are usually government approved. The Soviet union killed about 60 million people, all of whom couldn't have been murdered with the support of police & prosecutors. the Chinese murdered 30 million, the Nazis 30 million. In all these instances, the police were right there on the forefront to destroy life. So the police can be a good force or a bad force, just like a military. But they are also highly dangerous, and are the greatest threat to liberty, freedom & humanity if someone with evil motives obtains political office. The fact that an occasional purse snatcher is arrested does not excuse the fact that much of human suffering in the history of humanity can be blamed on police & prosecutors following the orders of political leaders.

In america, the police destroy as much as they help. Julez, he lives in the UK but look at what happened to him becuase he was arrested. he lost his job, his nurse license, his freedom, and he is mentally scarred for life. I think he got in a fight and had some drugs on him. Now, unless you are really biased, it is obvious that the police & prosecutors were the bad guys in that situation, they were the ones destroying lives and causing suffering, not Julez. I'm 99% sure that the police caused more suffering & misery than Julez's crime did. that applies to about 80% of what cops do, they cause more misery than they criminals they try to arrest do. the only exceptions are probably violent crimes, sex crimes or property crimes.

Not only that, but cops have the most pathetic excuses for their behavior i have ever seen. If you confront a police officer about the suffering he creates, he gives 2 excuses.

1. the criminal brought it upon himself
2. The law is the law

translation

1. blaming the victim
2. obeying politicians blindly.

Those are pathetic excuses for behavior. Not even hardened criminals blame their victims for the suffering they endure as much as police officers do. Not only that, but saying 'the law is the law' is a fancy way of saying 'politicians are infallible', something it took humanity 1000's of years to mentally work beyond (100's of years ago it was thought that political leaders were chosen by god, and therefore infallible).

Laws are not just, they are just a set of rules invented by politicians. Justice is an emotion which is dependent on individual variances, so Justice is impossible in any sort of dogmatic social way.

The fact that they treat everyone like an object is insulting too. Like everyone is nothing more than a potential threat to be controlled.

Also, for anyone who says the police have a dangerous job, look at these statistics i got from p0ink. I've known these stats for a while but most people do not.

U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Fatalities per 100,000
Year 1999

Commercial Fishermen 162
Timber Cutters 154
Air Pilots 65
Construction Laborers 37
Garbage Collectors 34
Truck Drivers 28
Electricians 12
Gardeners (non farm) 11
Police 11
Carpenters 7

a truck driver has a 3x mortality rate than a police officer.

the police are a force for good too. The DC sniper case is a good example. the DC snipers threatened to start killing children, and the police got them before they could carry out their threats. if not for the police, 20-30 more lives (the lives of the victims & their families) would've been destroyed. but that is only part of the time.

Personally, i don't know. If you ask me, the average police officer on the street probably causes more misery and suffering in his entire career than a mass murderer does in his career.

Also, i don't know if this is relevant, but i think cops are just a part of the machine so i don't hate cops but show indifference to other sections of the justice system. Cops, prosecutors, judges & politicians. Without any one of them the other 3 wouldn't work.

God i'm condescending.

We need cops. Cops need power to do their job. Power corrupts. So we need checks and balances...but not too many, because then the cops' hands are tied, and they'll be afraid to do their job....but then we get back to giving cops too much power. It's a constant tightrope that cops and society have to walk. It will never be perfect and could probably be improved upon, but in the end, we still need cops.

I feel sorry for the "good" cops out there. Being required to enforce laws that are unjust, meaningless, and even harmful to others must really tax someone with an innate sense of right and wrong.

I definitely agree that we need law and order. My problem is not with ALL police, just the bad and corrupt ones.
