The 'new" Hierarchical Structure at EF

i am guessing the two natzis won't allow THIS thread to last very long before it's zapped.......

in an idea world, sure.
but moderators aren't here 24/7 and members are.

in fact, a LOT of members are here, and a lot of them cause trouble, or don't know when to stop causing trouble. plus spammers, and people that just don't realize not to post illegal things here and get the site in trouble.

but don't forget something- THIS isn't a chat board. this is a fitness site with a chat board, as well as lots of other board that need attention.

i'm guessing you'd use derogatory names about anyone that wasn't you, although lately it's really no surprise.

personally, I would add more moderators that were active rather than confuse the membership as to what the ranks are.

Also, I use chat board as a synonym for forum.
 
rumor has it that 5 gallon tubs of chap-stick are issued to all mods.

nahh..."someone" is not at all bitter...now that "someone" knows the head-natzi-in-charge will never allow "someone" to acheive rank here "someone" is merely mentioning his true opinions.

this IS still America, where people are allowed to say what they think, isn't it? :rolleyes:

we'll be cleaning up the moderators too.
some mods are active in areas that you may not frequent btw.

I fully understand, and I am familiar with most of the mods here (at least of their existence).

Personally, I would make the omnibudsman the role of the mentors, this would give you a chance to evaluate their performance in moderating arguments, prior to their moving up.

Just my 2 cents.

they are different from mentors because they are not here to help the mods, they are here to help you guys.

if they aren't needed, they won't have anything to do.

but a Mentor by definiton is suppose to help members? that is why I am confused.

ah.
mentors help both members and mods. They report bad posts, or source requests, or problems in general to us.
They also help members who may not know the rules.
really, there's not a whole lot of use for mentors in chat, other than to just help keep some peace or be around if a problem happens- but they are a big help in the AS forum, where new posters come in every day and say stupid stuff and ask where to get things.

an ombudsman will be much more used in chat than in AS.
 
btw, being a mentor is also sometimes a little training session. If we see a mentor that stands out as being a big help, we'll most likely make them a moderator.
and it goes the other way too - we've made people mentors, then i see them starting trouble and I think, "oh, nevermind then!"
 
You guys don't see all the hard work mentors put in - they are constantly helping us clean up spam, reporting shady posts (like sourcing - maybe not so much in chat) and bringing up issues that go behind the scenes.

They really help keep the forums I moderate clean...esp when I'm not around. I respect them as much as any other member, only difference is they volunteer to help without any compensation (just like every mod).

Every member is welcome to share ideas. As "structured" as EF seems to be, we are VERY open to ideas on how to continuously improve the site...but if you come with a negative attitude it's going to make it that much more difficult. I want you guys to know that I welcome any insight and will do my best to make sure your voice is heard on the mod board. Just PM me anytime...and I'm sure 'letto feels the same way. She's been putting in a lot of effort to make sure chat stays enjoyable.

MM has some excellent points. Personally, one of my issues is when things are not adequately defined... and I suspect I'm not alone. The moderator is pretty well defined on internet discussion forums. However, there exist only abstract notions and differing responses to what these mentors and ombudsmen are.

EF wants to reinvent some new wheels, but I have yet to see any concise or encompassing definition for what they're doing. Perhaps administrators think this makes things easier and more open and malleable. I think the opposite: it creates confusion, disinterest, and makes things more difficult. They're just creating big gray areas.

Noobs always ruin places. Probably due to their lack of humor. It could just be those who registerd in December of '07 that suck, too. :D

I agree there Samoth. There are better ways. Besides, who is crying. I am laughing my ass of at some sheot being said around here. Its funny and takes the edge of a tough day. I don't think noobs asked for all these positions either. I think that's a admin and owner issue. Don't blame the changes on the noobs, as noobs become members and pay for this sheot too. Got my money. I have moved about eight times in the past two years, and how do you know I am not a regular that has been around. It's funny, just because someone has been at a sight for awhile they loose the fact that thousands and thousands of web forums exist. You'd be surprised at some of the sheot I moderated. But who cares. I am here now. This is home bro. I well, I like joking with my dry sense of humor.

I believe there are good points made in this thread, I hope the administration has taken note of some of the good points and banned the noobs.
 
I find C&C much less fun, what used to be a free-wheeling stimulated conversation area has become more kaffeeklatch, like "The View" on barbiturates. I, myself, prefer a place where ideas can be exchanged without fear of retribution from friends of people who are in power.

Eggshells are not fun to walk on, and it hinders one's ability to congregate with those he considers e-friends.

+1 I miss many of the people that were banned...... Too many good bros that made this place fun to visit were banned...actually it was almost addicting....i would find myself making sure I had some time to come to c&c daily because it was fun and interesting. Lately I've notice Im hardly on here, I found it a little boring now. Hopefully it comes around again.
