The Dixie Chicks win was purely political

p0ink

New member
the only reason they won album of the year was because they chose to be so vehemently anti-bush.

i hate justin timberlake as much as i hate the dixie chicks, but he deserved to win.

anyone who disagrees needs to explain why the #9 selling album of 2006 beat the #1 (timberlake)-#8 selling albums of 2006 to win best album.

BAsh Bush and turn your back on Red State fan base=Fast track for Hollywood awards.

just because timberlake sold more albums doesnt mean he is better, the dixie chicks have alot more talent that can transfer out of a studio

oak, you must be high.

they were ranked 9th...so that means they beat out 8 other artists who were more popular, sold more albums, and sold more tickets.

the dixie chicks had to cancel many shows in the US, because of lack of ticket sales.

yes but look at the size of the fan base, country isnt nearly as big in some areas as other pop music

Yea, forgot about the shows they had to cancel. How the fuck are you going to win 5 grammys if you have to cancel multiple shows??? Gee, I know: politics.

exactly...so how does it win album of the year if not as many people like it?

purely political.

...and it's also politics as to why no radio station plays there songs, Bush fans don't buy their cds, as well as the red states.......

lol @ dixie chicks. Women would eat their shit thru a straw if given the chance. They make me want to vomit.

So they should just give it to the #1 selling album every year?

It isn't based on album sales just like picture of the year isn't based on movie sales. they have been pretty low key this year, and plenty of people hate bush. They can't ALL win...LOL. That is just stupid.

you do have to be a bit skeptical about these broads winning.
in country circles they get no love, in pop circles they can't compete with beyonce and urban r&b.
sometimes i think you play devil's advocate on here, to hone your lawyer skillz

they have a huge fan base. You're nuts. LOL. Anyway, the winners are voted on by judges, not by sales. Musically, they are extremely talented. How many bands actually play MUSIC on INSTRUMENTS and can sing harmoney anymore? Anyway, if you tried to make everyone who hates Bush win a grammy, 85% of the American population would have one on their mantle right now...lol.

why do you hate justin timberlake? not liking his music is one thing (although i have a couple of tracks on my ipod), but if it's more than that...why?

jestro said:

no...but skipping over 8 others is especially surprising.

once again, we are talking about a band that pissed off the majority of their a base, a band that a lot of country radio stations refused to play (a business decision, not censorship), a band that had to cancel a lot of concerts due to lack of ticket sales, etc.

it was also the band that got on the cover of time magazine for being anti-bush.

i dont hate him as a person, i just hate his music.

i can't stand pop.

lol@85%

Heres a little snippet for you. L.A. is more or less the center of the musical world in the U.S. I don't even think theres a country music station left on the air here. I'm pretty sure that if i go back to my truck and flip through the FM, i'm not going to hear much country.

So the album of the year almost has 0 exposure in the focal point of the music industry.

Kinda funny.

And most country people i know (where i grew up) hate the dixie chicks for their views.

the dixie chicks didn't even get a SINGLE nomination for the country music awards...but yet they win album of the year at the grammys?

oh, this is definitely not political. everyone listen to heatherae.

LA might be the center of the musical world, but not the country world. Try flipping through the stations in Nashville, see if there's any country stations.
BTW, country listeners are generally not people that live in a big city.

they are voted on by 11,000 people "in the business", singers, writers, producers, etc. So, a bigger portion of the 11,000 anti Bush people voted for them, that's not many in the big picture. As posted earlier, they cancelled many shows for lack of ticket sales. The fan base that they DID have shrank to their immediate family and the libs who loved the BS the little fat one was spewing. Can she sing? hell yes. Should they have won? Oh HELL no, and I'd be pissed if I had the nomination in thier catagories and hadd them beat in all other catagories, an lost because the libs wanted to send a message.
Where's Toby Keith, he'll kick her fat ass. What did he write, "Shut Up and Sing!"

Musically speaking, though, they are brilliant. You have to admit that they are excellent. A majority of people disapprove of Bush. Get over it people.

PS -- musically Toby Keith v. Dixie Chicks is the equivalent of Taco Bell vs. Nobu.

i believe you have credit to comment, coming from a country type of background (as i do)
but compared to country acts, they are nothing special.
dolly parton, loretta lynn, june carter...those are real country chicas
dixie chics will never reach that level of fame and admiration by true country fans.

I love Dolly, June, and Loretta. Gotta love them. I was raised in the mountains of eastern Ky, so I grew up listening to bluegrass. Before the Dixie Chicks, no one in the country music industry would market an album with banjos anymore. The country music stations were flooded with friggin Shania Twain and Faith Hill, who don't sound the least bit like cuntry music.

I love that these gals can play the traditional fiddle, banjos and acoustic guitar. Lyrically, their songs are very good, and they can sing their asses off. I LOVE the chicks!

Probably not the best move in the world for them to say they don't like bush, because lots of country music listeners are the types who decorate their trailers with red, white and blue crap from wal-mart and fucking Thomas Kincaid reproductions. They think that if you are against the war, you have to be anti-troop which is foolish and short-sighted. Even though I like the traditional country music, most of what is on country radio these days is so terrible, I won't even listen to it.

I can't believe that so many people who think that they can say anything they want and it doesn't have an effect on the people who are at this very minute fighting to give them the right to do so. When we have military incountry, and you give the terrorists ANY sign that there is a division in the US and that the house divided may fall ( in this case give up and leave due to internal pressure), that gives them hope and inspiration that they can win thus the impetus to keep fighting. By them fighting and killing our finest, the libs keep spewing forth their crap about losing lives, thus it's the vicious cycle that they perpetuate themselves! Why is that so hard to see!?
People like you and me, we can say what we want, who's really going to hear besides a few hundred people at best, no biggie. BUT, when you have the world media listening and then airing every word that is said AND the response of the US, thus litterally hundreds of millions of ears, including the terrorists, the burden then lies with you as a celebrity to what you want them to hear. You want them to hear a house divided on it's self!? or them see the divisions that can be created by spewing hate, condemnation of your president, anti war rhetoric, that gives them the hope that they can prevail. Or a country united, not holding hands and singing Cum By Ya necessarily, but nevertheless a country united in a common cause to defeat the people who killed thousands on 9/11, killed hundreds in the embassy bombings, killed hundreds of Marines in Lebanon, 17 in the attack of the USS Cole, ad nauseum. And don't forget, they'd kill me and my family, they'd kill you and your family if they could get their hands on us, why, because we're American. That's pretty damn scarry if you asked me. You choose....

"I think people are using their freedom of speech tonight with all of these awards," Maines said.

There's an admission right there that they didn't actually deserve to win the award, but rather were given it as a political statement.

I have a letter from a soldier in Iraq, "Hope Rides Alone", some of yall who support Sheehan, Franken, MSNBC, the discusting Chicks, and the far left media, need to read it. It's kind of long, but if enough people want to see it, I'll post it here.

BTW, going to WalMart to buy enough red, white and blue spray paint to cover my Escalade.

Why don't you just go burn a few books and have an anti-free speech rally, then?

LOL.

what they said was in poor taste being out of the country and all ; but the backlash on them was not deserved ; but I dont think the Grammy was deserved either.

Thank god we have the freedom to speak our minds!! Even when it is in poor taste!!

None of you guys mind when Ted Nugent spews all of his right wing, pro-NRA stuff do you? I don't mind him. I feel like he has the right to voice his opinions just like everyone else. I at least think he is a hoot. I like eccentrics.

There you are!! cool....
to answer your question on freedom of speech. Is it OK to yell "FIRE" in a crowded building? waiting.... ( jeopardy song laying in the background)
Question: Is it OK to do that?

Miss Maines, it's also freedom of speech to call you a leftist douchebag for your actions outside the borders of this country.

Freedom of speech only protects you from repercussions from the government. I can tell you to go fuck yourself and refuse to buy your shitty albums as I wish. In no way am I hindering your ability to be an asshat.

Did she yell "fire" in a building? Gee, I never heard that...LOL. Completely irrelevant question. To answer your question, political expression is the highest form of protected speech under the Constitution. It definitely isn't the same as inducing a panic by yelling fire in a crowded building. That being said, you don't have to like them or buy their records. I think it is pretty silly to not like a band based upon what political party they are, but to each his/her own.

damn, I thought you were a better debater than that.. :-)
the answer is NO, how does it correlate to our discussion, people may die as a result of your action. By emboldening the terrorists and their allies, they can see a division in ranks and act accordingly. How, by sending more homicidal bombers, more IED's, etc. instead of seeing that it's futile and that the ultimate result, the only result is that they are going to be defeated.
Yes, even freedom of speech that we all hold dear, can and is used as a waspon against us. Who uses it the most, take your pick, Sheeehan, MSNBC, the fat little chick with the big mouth, Murtha, etc, etc. If you say you support our troups but don't support the war, assuming that you have access to the media, if you say things that show division in the US, then you really have no thought about our troups. You can't have it both ways...

I'm mad as hell...". Damn, I think I peed a little in my pants. Freedom of political speech is what makes this country so great. Without it, what would our troops even be fighting for?

And just because you are against a war doesn't mean you hope our troops get killed. That is ludicrous. That is just the way of the extreme right wingers to try to paint anyone who doesn't go along with their war as unpatriotic. I hope they all come home safely. I don't think they should have been sent in the first place. Lots of people are dying for a whole lot of nothing.

OH HELL yes! Disn't you realize that they have reserved seat in every show! C'mon, you got to get out more gurl....
NO!! but they do listen to our media, ya think? Think they watch and see what the hell Murtha, Pellosi, Billory and the rest of the left is saying? Of course thay do, sure thay do, and they make plans accordingly. They are jumping out of their rags as we speek knowing that the pullout is near when the Dems get their way. But don't fool yourself, you'll see the killing fields of Cambodia all over again, and you not be suprised when we have them in our front yard, again, if we don't fight them there, guess where they comming to.
The best day of a terrorists life is yet to come, they are salivating over the Dems and the anti war stance. They are waiting for the democratic presidency. Patiently waiting till we leave, shouting "Death to America!".When the Al Queda and the other terrorists get their hands on the Iraqui oil money, God bless us every one.

Once again, who cares? They are EXCELLENT. The fact that they didn't get nominated at the CMA's was political, not their win at the grammies.

You watch too much Fox News. It's like hearing an echo in here from you.

i'm not sure how how the CMA's are decided, but if it were by the fans, it would be obvious as to why they did not get a single nomination.

and i am not disputing that them not getting a nomination isn't political, just like you shouldnt dispute them winning ALBUM OF THE YEAR in the most coveted music awards was not political.

there is absolutely no fucking way on god's green earth that they earned that title for their musical ability. if you think so, you are extremely naive.

You must not have ever heard them either. They are so talented. True musicians, song writers and singers are rare these days.

It really isn't a political issue. They won for their music. Go cry a river, you big babies.

Looks like they already did. They have won several grammies, are critically acclaimed, play to packed houses, and have more than one plat record under their little belts.

Do I need to get 2 pizzas?

Once again, who cares? They are EXCELLENT. The fact that they didn't get nominated at the CMA's was political, not their win at the grammies.

You watch too much Fox News. It's like hearing an echo in here from you.

Now now HR, it seems as though some hormones are fluctuating in teh HR household. Both the grammies and the CMA's are political. They got one from the liberal side of things (grammies, i.e hollywood) as their way of supporting "bush bashing". The CMA's didn't nominate them as their way of "liberal bashing" or supporting bush. It's ALL political.

Fox is news is fair AND balanced, don't you know that?

lol...babies don't poop in the womb. Well, technically, they can if you go over due, but they call it merconium. UGH.

A coworker of mine just had a baby and he was saying the babys merconium smelt worse that a rotten dead body. I guess techinally it is 9 month old poop. LOL *HEAVE*

No, they are not pooping for 9 months. Sometimes when a woman is delivering, they can have poop near the end of it all. It doesn't happen in every birth. The risk is that the baby can aspirate the merconium. I hope that doesn't happen with me. I don't think I will have anyone but medical staff in the room with me, though. So, at least it won't be as embarassing.
