Tested my squat last night...a humbling experience

Since I'm not competing anytime soon, and I've done a lot of work to correct my squat form, I decided I'd test my squat for ME squat day. Earlier in the week, I did 275+pinks for a single, working up after my speed sets. My form didn't deteriorate nearly as much, and it didn't feel all that heavy.

So I figured, what the hell, throw the briefs and suit on, and go balls to the wall, let's see what happens.

Well, the briefs don't seem to fit right anymore, and they weren't that great to begin with. I couldn't get to parallel with 275 on the bar. I tried 313 with straps up, and missed. Now, I've hit 325 before in competition, albeit with bad form, so I didn't think I should miss 313.

I thought maybe it was the briefs throwing me off, so I ditched them, and went to just the suit. I took a nice, long break, and hit 275 again after the girls got done working up, and promptly got planted.

My form went all to hell, and I couldn't move the weight.

The only thing I can figure is that with all the travel, I'd missed several workouts, and my DE day was my first time squatting in probably 10 days, so I was well rested. Testing my squat two days later simply might not have been enough rest.

Anyway...just thought I'd share my frustration with the training board...

could just be a bad day man...it happens

don't let it get you down

you still train with the asylum crew right?

Yeah, could just be a bad day...but it is frustrating.

And yeah, I'm still a part of the Asylum..why would I ever want to leave?

:)

dont sweat it.......... just relax take a few days off and try it again. i gaurntee you will see a difference.

That sucks man. But, everyone has off days. And if you haven't been at it much in 10 days, that's probably what has done it. Traveling takes it out of you, too. You'll hit it next time. BTW, are you home this weekend? PM if you are going to be around.

Continue to perfect your form and train hard. The numbers will be there for you in the future. Focus on your weaknesses and your squat will progress. Work your hips and hams (your back is not a weakness). One more thing you may benefit from is some hypertrophy work on your quads. You may need to add some mass to your lower body to build stabilization. Perhaps a set of 20-rep squats (Olympic style) on either your ME or DE days. Good luck!

We all have our days Project.

Go out and treat yourself to a nice stack of 10 pancakes with strawberries, 6 pieces of toast, 3 slices of ham, 3 slices of bacon, and a coffee

:)

I think the days off really gave me the great result on DE day. I just had high hopes for testing my squat.

Food was good...ate a lot yesterday. Sleep...not so much, and that could be a factor as well. I'm working different hours at work now, and it's tough for me to force myself to go to bed earlier.

Stress, I dunno...I'm always stressed, although I don't feel particularly burnt right now.

Screwball, thanks for the tips...that's an interesting idea, and I wouldn't mind having bigger quads. :D

Hammer, I can't do that many pancakes...I just don't have the sweet tooth. Now eggs, bacon, ham, steak, etc...that I can do.

I had a rough squat workout a couple of sessions ago, but last night I came back determined.

Hang in there and never give up. . tell yourself you never want to fail again and train hard to surpass your current situation.

Thanks guys. :)

The football team was doing chain suspended GM's from 44" with the safety squat bar, so instead of getting pissed and going to eat, I got pissed and did some GM's. Not the most productive exercise for me, but at least I felt better afterwards.

no offense, but even if your not able to make workouts with your crew, things like plyometrics or squat jumps and pushups will help.

no excuse not to train unless your dead :)

I can count on one hand the number of workouts I missed prior to my new job...ordinarily it's not a big deal.

With my new job, I have to travel, and the two trips I've been on involved me working very long hours, so the option became either (A) sleep for work tomorrow or (B) work out.

That said, b fold gave me a great idea...taking bands with me on my trips, and I intend to do that.

And no offense taken.

I wouldn't even give it a second thought. Whenever things with work, sleep, or just something new in my schedule impact my training in a negative way, I find it easy to beat myself up and start questioning everything I do. But then I adjust, my body adjusts, and I get things moving in the right direction again. It ends up being a waste of time for me to have even worried about having a shitty workout. If I were you I would forget it even happened, and keep doing what you've been doing to come as far as you have.

i know its' different but it happend to me the other day w/stones. ive gotten the 265 loaded b4 but sun i couldnt even load the 245. had to be happy w/230. then do sets w/185 stone. i was real frustrated but i guess we have our bad days and we have good days.
