if anyone does, it is to make you sweat more, but it is probably not too healthy

Diamonddiceclay,

Can you explain why running with a sweater wouldn't be healthy? I always thought that if you're trying to cut, it's more beneficial because you sweat more.

You won't lose any more fat by sweating more. The only reason to do it is if you need to make weight for an event, or if you are trying to lose a little water for asthetic purposes, but you only need to do it a couple times. As far as fat loss is concerned, it doesn't so anything.

wear a sweater if it's cold out...:FRlol: some will say that it raises your bodytemp therefore making you burn more fat....i don't think it will make or break ya'........:p

Wearing a sweater while you are doing cardio is not going to help you burn fat any faster than without one. However, it will be easier to become dehydrated or overheated.

I notice when I cut and my b/f drops that I'm freezing cold in the mornings (when I like to do my cardio) - so I usually start with a sweatshirt and then ditch it if I start to sweat too much.....

...incidentally, I read somewhere that it's actually beneficial to stay slightly cool when doing cardio (to promote fat burning) - but I can't remember where I read that.....it was an article or something that mentioned how this guy used to step out into the cold air during cardio sessions and that he felt this cooling effect was conducive to losing fat......hmmm

Here's the thing about the cool weather being good for fat burning. It has to be REAL cold, enough that you are feeling cold even while training. Then, your body has to burn extra calories to keep warm. But if the exercise is enough to warm you up, then your body won't need to burn ADDITIONAL calories to keep warm, the workout is doing it. This is why cyclists who are riding for 6 hours in the mountains bonk if they don't eat extra food on colder days--their bodies are burning extra calories to keep warm, especially because the wind from biking at high speeds can chill you.

But the most important thing is the actual exercise. DO NOT back off the intensity or do less just so you can stay cold--the actual calories burned to warm up the body aren't that high.

One question I have about this theory is, how come Africans and Asians (who live in warm climates) are relatively lean, while the Eskimos are more chubby?

I read something similar, but it was about doing cardio in extreme heat. Said your body wouldn't burn as much fat as it would at a more normal or slightly cooler temp. Something about the high heat over- stressing your body. Even though you're sweating buckets, and think you're working really hard, you're not losing as much fat.

KingJohn,

I think you are right. There is nothing wrong with sweating; just replace those fluids. I, too, feel "cleansed" by a good sweat.
But it doesn't burn anymore fat, though.

sweating helps to release growth hormone

plus it keeps you warm

someone might have already said this but I didn't feel like reading everyone's replies.....the reason why you shouldn't wear a sweater when doing cardion ( unless it's cold out, or you're trying to loose water) is because all it does is make you sweat. I know that it will raise your body temperature but your body will respond to that by sweating....not burning more fat. It's actually better to not wear a sweater because the colder you body is (without sweating) the more it has to increase it's own temperature......thus burning the optimum amount of fat.

It's a technique used by those middle-aged overweight women you see hogging the cardio equipment all the time....

.... since they don't know much about physiology, they think any weight lost is good. If the number on the scale goes down, you're doing something right. So they put on a sweater or a jacket or a garbage bag or something to make them sweat profusely....

.... they lose 2 litres of water, which is 2kg of weight. Which they think is good.... weight is weight to them.

That's where it stems from. It's only water, and you'll soon feel very thirsty and drink it all back in again....

i think you burn more fat when you don't wear a sweter because
your body has to use energy in order to keep warm....

there was a study done on some third world country with harsh
environments (cold)

The ate like 300-4000 calories a day and stayed lean all the time.

I don't know if that means much or if this is already an old topic
but i felt like putting a new look on this...

Maybe its bullshit

the sweater will only make you lose water and dehydrate. It's not a good idea at all. You will actually burn more calories when it's cold. Even drinking cold water you will burn more calories than warm water. Why? B/C your body has to work harder at warming up and staying warm, and in the case of the water it has to make the cold into warm as well. Those people running around w/ sweaters are usually dehydrated.

I've heard of a few idiots at my gym doing this and actually fainting from the eliptical machines. They're running around in this machine w/ a sweater on and not stopping for water... after a while they plop.

i just wear a tube sock on my penis that way my "core" is always warm..

no, don't wear a sweater.. s sweat shirt, a hoodie or something that is easily washed..

heat does not always = more effect..

I just wear a rubber waist belt so that the area around my waist sweats more to try and lose some more fat and water from that area.
