Sugar before or after a workout

I say after. Once you're depleted and need to replenish your body, it makes sense to me that you'd take in sugar after the workout. I have some customers that say they do it before a workout...If I workout out the intensity of some men, I think I'd puke. Anyone have a good reason for one way over the other?

You need some sugar right after workout. It puts insulin into bloodstream helps muscles soak up protein. Low glycemic carbs should be consumed in a meal 2 hours before workout for energy and again two hours later to replenish.

Love me some protein & carbs post w/o...

fiber before a workout.. protein after. its that simple

Im not sure what fiber would do pre workout except for shitting your pants in the squat rack.
A solid protein such as chicken or beef and slow digesting carbs like brown rice or sweet potato pre workout then waxy maize or straight sugar with whey post workout, I like Dark Matter by MHP, it's an all-in-one post workout drink. Then a solid protein/carb meal an hour after, that's how it's done

WinnyPumps thats fine if you are against fiber before a workout but come on!, you say not to eat fiber and that you are unsure why i would recommend it then you say people should eat sweet potato and rice... both of which have insane amounts of fiber!! I think we disagree on the ABC's but one of us doesn't understand what fiber is. when i say fiber i don't mean prunes.... and i probably should of been more specific not to confuse the new posters cuz its easy to confuse fiber for fruit. i wouldn't eat fruit before cuz like you said it could upset your stomach.

sweet potato (including the skin) and brown rice are my weapons before a workout and are also staples of my diet.

i disagree however on beef, you want to be energetic in the gym, not feel blah. stay away from fats before a workout. especially if you are planning on doing some light cardio after your weights session. save the beef till after. and lets go a step further with grass fed omega 6 rich beef, not the cheap crap.

i do it simple wit 3-4oz of chicken breast and 1-1.25 cups of oats both pre and postwo. ive found it to be better when i leave additional fats out of my pre and postwo meals. i also dont consume any protein shakes. just solid foods for me and its been workin better than ever (and saves me money on the shakes lol)

good post. I'm a believer in real food and not these silly protein shakes.

as if our ancestors evolved from drinking protein shakes! they ate real food!

Actually taking in sugar just to replace glycogen isn't a big factor. However, it does shuttle protein into the bloodstream and increase insulin and post workout is the perfect time for that.
