It's not your fault for watching her gain weight and lose self respect. You're a hero because you pity her. After all, you're not her real mom, so it's not really your responsibility.

Be proactive and help her fix it. Have her take responsibility for herself and her health. Or she can do what you are and just blame everyone else. It's our dumbass jokes that have made her that way, and you e-defended her, so you're doing an amazing job.

Well, she was chubby before I met her. I'm the step-parent. I'm not. She hasn't gained any weight since I met her.

The only one I've read being criticized is you. So stop hiding behind her skirts like a coward. If she is reading any of this exchange the fault is only yours. Since she more likely is not reading these posts stop trying to blow smoke up everyones ass. She isn't being harmed. Only your ego is at stake.

More to the point disagree with who you will, but a great deal of insight and good advice is being dismiised by you in these posts. Stop thinking, a skill in which you lack proficiency, and start paying attention to what others are communicating vis a vis parenting advice.

I'm going to copy and paste this from the other thread for anyone who is so deeply concerned about my relationship with my daughter. This is the last I'm discussing it:

Summer had a weight problem for several years now, well before I got in the picture. She has been teased and ridiculed for a few years. She was just starting to be comfortable in grade school because she was in the highest grade and the teasing had diminished.

Since I have moved in, I have struggled with what to do to help her. It isn't always black and white as to what to do. We go for walks together witht the dogs and I talk to her about healthy eating. I don't want to really push the health thing as a means to lose weight. So many women get screwed up things in their heads about food being the enemy, etc. She sometimes gets depressed and comforts herself with food. I am not going to admonish her too much because everyone has shoved her weight down her throat all her life.

Anyway, the day before school I was asking her about whether she was excited about starting a new school because she would be in the youngest class and she was afraid people would call her fat. We discussed bullies, etc.

I didn't bring up the topic of her weight. She wanted to talk to me about it.

She wanted me to fix her hair and put a little makeup on her. I would have agreed that it is too young to wear makeup, but all the little girls at her school have a little bit of gloss or mascara on. Seems young to me too. It was important to Summer, though, and I wanted to show her the right way to put a little bit on and not look like a clown. They owned makeup before I got in the picture. I can't exactly step in and take it away now.

Anyway, I did her hair and put a little bit of light pink gloss and mascara on her. It was all gone by the end of the day. I doubt it made it past first period...lol. It made her feel pretty though. Don't you guys get it? Girls like to feel pretty like boys like to feel athletic. It made her feel confident.

At the end of the day, she was excited and said she made new friends and several people said she looked cute. She even got attention from a little boy. I told her she was too young for that.

I'm pretty sick of being raked over the coals for this. It is really just the same 4 or 5 people on here who will attack me on here no matter what I post.

By the way, I did the hair and makeup for her again today. It makes her happy. It is some bonding time in the morning, and I she didn't look clownish. She looked like the lovely little girl that she is.

That is the last I'm going to defend this, because I shouldn't have to.

Heather, I don't mean to belittle you for trying to protect and help her. Never in a million years would I do such. I was also a girl, and the pressure was there for me. Now I have my own daughter and YES, I helped raise a step son and I know that you can't take away what is already given to them, its not your control... all you can do is work with what you have.

I don't think in the 6th grade this beautiful girl should have to result to makeup to be accepted. Personality and being herself, confidence ... should do the trick. But sometimes I do understand that its not enough. I will NEVER say you are a bad stepmom for stepping up to the plate to make this girl feel comfortable. That is what maternal instincts tell us to do. I've been there done that and I just feel that the whole 'be a different person to fit in' is the wrong way to be. I'm sure she is a lovely girl and if she was just herself and had the confidence she would fit in just perfect... no matter the extra pounds or the no makeup... Confidence goes alot further than any of that.

I am not here to pound you... hell I may have done the same thing in your situation and its so easy for me looking on the outside in and giving advice than looking on the inside out and actually taking care of this girl. I commend you for caring enough to do all that you do, even when she is not your daughter by blood. It takes alot to care for kids and its alot of stress.

I can clearly see that you deeply care for this child and you will be blessed for that. :heart:

I love SublimeZM. His posts may seem a little harsh sometimes, but I never took it to heart, cuz it was never ment to be that way anyways.
