Strength or size which is more permanent.

There are two guys, one focuses mainly on size and trains 8-12 rep range he has gained like 50 lbs of muscle but only squats about 200lbs more than when he started. the other is mainly a strength athelete like olypmic lifter or sprinter etc and trains in the 1-5 rep range and only weighs about 15lbs more than when he started lifting but has increased his squat by 200lbs.

which guy is going to lose their size more quickly and which guy will lose strength quicker if they both take time off from gym.

In comparison does size dissapate quicker than strength when you stop lifting? or do they both dissapear pretty quick? Whats your experience?

If either of them take a long time off and don't train (or eat appropriately) both size and strength will dissipate in proportionally equal measure in each athlete, or so I would imagine.

Strength takes longer to go away imho and personal experience if you are used to work for strength or so... many of the gains made are based on neural adaption, not n size... There were many times i had to lay off the gym and everytime i made it back, my bench and deadlifts were about the same maybe less 20lbs or so, on the deadlift particular case in about 2 weeks i would be setting new PR's... the squat suffered a bit more.

Regarding size... many things happens when you stop working out, you get lazy, you don't eat and hydrate as much and some of us party hard, others even harder....

So to answer all the questions the guy with who works mainly with reps between 1-5 like the classic 5x5 or many other strength programs will have long lasting size and strength compared to a guy that follows a typical bodybuilding program...

+ 1. there are too many individual variables to make this answer a simple one. on and off cycle my strength is always nearly the same. makes no sense to me since on cycle im am bigger. one of those variables that makes a question like this hard to answer.

They are going to be weaker not weak, they'll still have more strength than the average joe but in comparision to a strength athlete the size and strength losses will be greater...

In case you are wondering I admire all disciplines related with weightlifting, bodybuilding included.

Yeah. The on and off cycle thing is the most complicated variable indeed, one thing that's happens to me is that while on cycle and if one the compounds it's anadrol i'll most certainly lose a bit of strength but a even greater deal of size this happens with most of us though, but while on test and something mild like EQ things don't change much, most strength gains and size don't go away, but maybe because i always like to do the big 3 below five reps and that includes warmups.

All depends on how the person acts, if they eat like a bastard weight will probably be less likely to go then strength. Personally id have to lean towards size because even when my size when down my strength still stayed pretty damn near what it was.
