Strange red lines on shoulders?

Malleus

New member
Does anybody else get strange red lines--look like abrasions or burst blood vessels under the skin--on their shoulders after squats or other exercises? I'm thinking it's just the bar somehow leaving a mark on my shoulders, sometimes lasting a few days? Just curious.

I get them running down my traps particularly after I use the leg press machine, I just always thought it was due to the weight resting there.

definitely don't think they're stretchmarks... they look like fine red lines, sometimes two or three running horizontally across the top of the shoulder, as if left there by the weight of the bar. it just seems strange that they'd remain for several days... they kind of look veiny (except not raised).

burst blood vessels under the skin

You hit the nail on the head.

If it really bugs you, stick a towel over your shoulder. It distributes the weight and helps prevent it.

They're war wounds. Get a tank top, and go to Walmart and show them off. :D

LOL @ war wounds......i also get them form the standing calf machine.....a towel or a thick sweat shirt helps to minimize it.

i kinda like seeing them there.......lets me know i did something the day before.

as spatts sez. wear a tank top (or no top) and show it off!! those "in the know" will identify with you.

It's happend to me when I do Hack Squat machine, towel or not I have theses red mark but they go aways 2-3 days later. They are normal normal do not worry :)

I get them when I squat, behind my neck and on my traps, its just from heavy weights and the bar rubs the skin because my t-shirt is loose and causes friction.

i get those too when i squat or do calf raises on the machine they're not stretch marks cause they dissapear after a day or two.

Same here. Mine never go away, or if they do, it's the morning before hitting the machine again... :)

GOD and I thought I was the only one that that happens to! hehe

I stopped using that machine because it got so bad. I just use the sitting one now.

I think you should keep doing both. The seated hits your soleus almost exclusively (the smaller muscle underneath the gastroc.), the standing hits your gastrocnemius mostly, but some soleus...

Usually after speed squats I have a red bar line from shoulder to shoulder. Takes a couple days to go away.

i get em after doing shoulder shrugs and they run the other way than spatts's. the go from my neck down towards my shoulers

That pic is about 2 years old, but the trap ones are from the calf raise, and the rear delt ones are from squats the same day.

every once in a while i workout in a wife beater and i got em doin shrugs and my friend got all freaked out. he thought i messed up my shoulders.

spotted some of those on my boyfriend the other day and my first thought was...gee, I don't remember scratching him there?! :dodgy:

yea these marks are no big deal, just happen when you use machines that put lotsa weight on your shoulders, was kinda weird for me tho cause i do have stretch marks on my shoulders, then after i used a machine i was like whoa, i never thought i had this many stretch marks
