I am thinking of getting involved at a minor level at the moment (not much to spend......about $500).

Just wanted to hear about peoples major success.........or major downfalls. Not only personal (i once knew a guy who invested in.....)

also am i wasting my time with such a small investment? I will pump more into it later......but that will have to do for now

My major downfalls:

1. Trading on margin

2. Buying options

3. High risk investments making up 100% of my portfolio

4. Being highly concentrated in just 2 stocks

5. Listening to idiots who thought they knew something

6. Reading internet stock chat boards

Endpoint,

There are no-load mutual funds that will let you invest as low as $50 or month. Researh Index funds (i.e. Vanguard S & P 500 or TRowe Price Equity Income).

A good source is Money Magazine's yearly fund issue where they rank them by class and let you know if they have a "load" or not....

Started out with 700$ four years ago. Got lucky (luck provided by tons of research) and had gotten up to 4500$ just off the original 700 invested. Then, got cocky (less research) and lost a good portion of it.
In my opinion, learn how to research the stocks, read as much as you can. Not the get rich quick crap.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST A SITE LIKE MORNINGSTART OR ETRADE. JOIN THEM AND DO ALL THE RESEARCH. LEARN KEY FINANCIAL RATIOS AS WELL.

I have an etrade and a datek acct. Datek is better IMO. But Sofageorge's advice invaluable.

Do your own research.
