Im 47 years old and because of a problem I had with a certain prescribed medication I can no longer take stimulants of any kind, it's so bad that I cant even drink coffee without it creating problems. Anyway my question is how many of you still workout without taking anything to help give you that little bit of boost that one often needs to get a half way descent workout in?

Thanks

I can go without coffee during my wo .... but I don't like to. I'm spoiled.

I did get on a decaf kick once and got down to that. I was dragging.

I can't say that I'm doing it right now, but one of my goals is to be able to train stimulant free this year. I think that I get too much intensity in sometimes, and end up feeling CNS fatigue when I shouldn't. I used to be able to handle various stimulants, but my system just can't take it as well these days.

How about B-12? Either research chemical from AG-Guys or over the counter. Would this be an acceptable substitute or is this also on the verboten list?

Fortune I cant take anything... it sucks to say the least. I used to love taking ephedrine but now it really screws up my stomach and coffee makes me dizzy and light headed. Basically Im screwed

Thanks

Well, I know where your coming from. I get cranky if I don't have someting available for my after work workouts. One thing that seems to help a little is ginger caps. I started using them because they help assimilate protein, and in general they're used to aid digestion. They seem clear out my system fairly well of any type of sluggish feeling I've been carrying with me- and I'm a basically clean eater. I was thinking some sort of daily detox type herbal supplement might be helpful. A sorry substitute, but it may at least get rid of the junk you accumulate through our modern lifestyle and help you start with a clean slate.

I went to the gym yesterday and started with 25 minutes of cardio but felt ok, after that I started working my chest and struggled the entire time. I ended up going to the snack bar and buying an energy drink and had one hell of a shoulder workout, I felt so energetic I went and did 25 more minutes of cardio. I felt friggen phenomenal after I drank that crap. The minute I stepped off the stair climber I felt dizzy and light headed. Looks like Im going to have to train w/out any type of stimulant whatsoever. Damn this sucks...

I was told that b-12 would also create a problem so I'd just assume not go there but thanks for the suggestion.

Ever have the two hour gluocose test?
You fast overnight and they take a blood sample.
Then you consume a special drink that tastes like cola.
Two hours pass and they take a second sample.

The idea is to see the reaction for purposes of identifying pre-diabetic
condition.

bump the b12, would that be better than stimulants?

If you get your hands on some Synthelamin, and take 2.5ml before your workout, you should have more energy, and feel more positive too. I dont get any jittery feeling from it either. If you took it all the time, Im sure your body would get used to it, and you'd need more etc, so dont use it at those doses every day.

P.s. All authorative advice on B12 says taking it subcutinously (injecting under skin) works best, but in my experience this is bull - keep it in your mouth for a minute, then swallow for best effect.

The reason is that generally those who need to take b12 are deficient in it. This deficiency is due to a lack of intrinsic factor in the stomach necessary for its absorption and thus the need for sc injections. High doses of 1-2g are necessary orally to get the rda 1-2 ug without intrinsic factor.

What is the medical problem? If its cardiovascular then try provigil or neurogenex. They should set you straight.

I started taking klonopin to help me sleep at night when I stopped it screwed up my central nervous system. Went to several Dr's and they all said the same thing... theres nothing they can do the gaba receptors have to heal on their own and that takes time.

I take Provigil, its designed for the mind, not the cardiovascular system (although provigil does help me a bit there, its not what its designed for). In short, Provigil (Modafinil) is made for narcolepsy (falling asleep at random times during the day, and sleep apnea) to keep you awake, alert but without the harsh effects of other stimulants.

Neurogenex I know far less about since I've never taken any, but I do know its designed for the mind to perform cognition and memory.

Also, I only use stimulants very rarely now (because I've started cardio) and I dont think they are necessary. I'll do my best to avoid them unless I have too.

Not very assertive of you because thats what I meant. You should start taking Neurogenex with your speed ;)

Wish I could, but Im prescribed the Provigil by my psychiatrist and I'm pretty sure he wouldnt want me on the nuero since Im on antipsychotics so it'd interfere with the dopamine etc etc.
