That is one thing that I admired about the company however 2 years ago they implemented the increase in coffee prices across the board to cover the medical insurance for all employees. Now, I know that the consumer is ultimatley going to pay for it however this was a blatant publicility stunt by there CEO to justify the increase in prices...

It's all about feasability... health care is an enormous expense for anybody. You have to offset it somewhere. Admirable yes, but appropriate...

Sorry I felt like getting lyrical with what you said, I know I was restating your comment. :) Sorry kids I'm in an odd mood.

I pass three everyday on the way to work! Deciding if I need my coffee early to wake my ass up driving in or if I need it hot for when I first settle into my desk is a decision I make everyday.

THE ONLY THING that is good about NJ is that there is a Dunkin Donuts every 50 feet LOL

Interesting how these major lay-offs are coming on the heels of that decision that they HAVE to pay their employees more than slave wages because their profit margin is so fukkin high (or something to that effect). So rather than treat their employees like human beings they just close up shop.

NYICE

Sounds like the American way alright.

There 5 within 5 miles of me easily. There is one in the strip mall down the street. There is one inside the grocery store at the strip mall down the street. There is one at the outdoor mall a block past the strip mall down the street. There is one 2 miles down the hill. There is one 2 miles down the hill in the other direction.

I was joking with my students last semester that only an idiot would drink coffee that costs $4.89 a cup (I said this while holding my cup of Starsucks and pointing at it).

I hope one of the 7% that gets shitcanned is the kid who never fills my cafee mocha to the top. lol

Starbucks (SBUX) closed at $15.74 today... Now since the company is overvalued , watch the stock tumble.. They are guaranteed not to make earnings in the 3rd.. Look what happend to Krispy Kreme Donuts... It was trading at 85 times earnings and it fell to a penny stock the first quarter the market adjusted...Millions of investors were out hundereds of millions of dollars... The exact same thing will happen to Starbucks..

They should have grown much slower and focused on franchises.

The market is rewarding their behavior.

That is exactly right, there are no short cuts to the top. At least with franchising there investment is paid up front and gross profits are taxed. If they had 1200 locations that were 80% franchised paying 32% of gross profits quarterly, they would be in great shape...

good their fucking 7$ coffee and trendies that hang out their are lame.

I have a 25$ starbucks gift card I still havnt used.

man i really give 2 shits less about starbucks. i went in there once and looked at the prices then seen a tip jar at the counter??? $5 for a coffee plus a tip?????

sorry son not happenin

There was a time in my life where I lived in hotels due to the fact I worked alot of 3month and 6month contract jobs (So I never signed leases)

At that time Starbucks was somewhat attractive, but considering I could plug my laptop into my work network for free.... There wasn't much point even for me.

I really can't see why anyone else would even think about that

Starbucks demographic was upscale yuppies fresh from a massive dot-com boom.

That boom died. And then the next mortgage boom died too.

So now their target demographiuc has shrunk. Mostly replaced by poor hispanics in areas they are still located. They are now closing them. No sense having starbucks in barrios. Starbucks will still be located where they are needed. White upper middle class areas.

yeah the price of coffee there is ridiculous but one thing that I cant get over thats not related to starbucks is botted water... a bottle of the FIJI stuff costs like 3 bucks...its just water for fucks sake

Yeah, I used to drink Coffee Time coffee until I moved to a building with a Starbucks next door. :(

Damn, that coffee is expensive; but it does keep me up in the morning!

Meh... we gotta neat coffee maker with a sef-timer thingie and they finally offered Dunkin Donuts coffee in the grocery store and costco. Until we can get the coffee maker that will like blow you for 4K (how obscene is THAT but DAMN it makes coffee that is UNBEE-LEEE-VABLE) my morning Java comes outta da machine on the counter in my kitchen.

When I was back east it was my daily ritual to get my sorry ass outta the house and visit the Dunkin Donuts around the corner.

*sniff*

THE ONLY thing I miss about NJ.

Extra large, light with cream and NO SUGAR. LOL

Krispy Kreme donuts are superior to Dunkin Donuts IMHO, but NOBODY'S coffee even comes close to Dunkin Donuts.

You know sumthin? My Old Grump and I frequent Starbucks often as I need my caffeine fix throughout the day (and there is NO DD :( ) and we have NEVER met Starbuck's employees who actually LIKE working there. I mean, we are always laughing and cutting up and the employees always say they love it when we come in to visit but they HATE working there.

I am thinking that for those who do get canned it will probably be a good thing and they will realize how much they were limiting themselves working for a corporation that didn't give A SHIT about them.

But yes, I do know how much it sucks to get fired..... initially anyways. :)

brewed coffee in only $1.80. It's the fancy pants concoctions that most Starbucks customers insist on ordering that costs 4 bucks.

yeah it's Coldstone Creamery. Great ice cream, but no better than Brusters, which in our area is killed them. They both serve super premium ice cream, but Brusters is cheaper.

Starbucks like many other things in our society is a luxury item, as the economy goes so will starbucks and other items such as many clothing stores. Look for starbucks to rebound in a big way and start opening stores when the economy eventually comes back.

Starbucks is all about the bottom line. When they were ordered to pay their employees they decided to close the lower performing stores. Simple, bottom line. When there is a Starbucks on every corner in every grocery store and shopping center it is easy to close a few thousand and make it seem like that was a big deal.

The fact is that their profit margin for a cup of coffee is 90+% If it was gasoline the price would be $145 a gallon

:santa:

There's a former restaurant location in Southhampton that has failed for years, every new business that went in closed up within months. They made it a Starbucks and it's thriving for a few years now.

Go Figure.

I think they grew too large, too many location in a radius too small and they're scaling back.

You know that doesn't bother me, I think it's important that people have health insurance.

I mean people can make their own coffee for pennies a day in their homes and offices so if someone is so lazy that they have to buy coffee everyday they really ought not to complain.

http://yellowpages.superpages.com/l...Tampa+FL+&searchbutton.x=59&searchbutton.y=14
is the local bagel/coffee chain still open in tampa? called obiemeyers or sumpin like dat? was one in brandon and one in central tampa? (this was 10 years ago when i was there)

they were SO much better than starbux.

This is where the Starbucks concept got off track. Starbucks motto used to be we are not selling coffee, we are selling a refuge from Work and Home.

In that sense, people were happy to pay $4.5 for a coffee to have a nice leather couch to sit on, some good mags to read and a place to use your laptop.

Somehow they lost all that and started building boxes stores with drive-up windows and hard chairs. They were just selling coffe - no refuge and people started saying - hey why am I paying $4.50 for this coffe in a drive-up window.

I dunno if many of you ever spent any time in the Crown Room or other frequent flyer private areas of airports, but Starbucks is like a public Crown room. A public Crown that instead of free drinks , they're over priced....

They definitly need to downsize in other to stay in business

Yeah but instead of first class lounges, they started provided something that looked like the boarding gate waiting area. People are not going to pay $4 for coffee to sit in that area.

Ill say it again people who think starbucks is good coffee Know 0 about coffee

i'll take denney's or shoney's coffee over starbux's over priced, bitter brew.

There is a Starbucks in the Forbidden Palace in Bejing. Go figure that out. That place looks like a fortress with all these state run gimmicky souvenir stores selling statues of the great wall.

Then in some little corner there is a Starbucks pumping in the caffeine to all the foreigners coming through. Pretty amazing site.
