You need carbs to replace the energy stores before your protien is utalized. there are 4kcal in each gram of carb and each gram of pro and your body does not know the differance. So it you take only protien in than you body is going to use that for energy recovery before it uses it for musscle growth. Wouldnt you rather have energy recovery use the carbs then what protien is left used for musscle rebuilding?
Your body will always restore energy levels before muscle rebuilding and protien synthisis, so use your carbs for that and don't waste protien.
also check into your semi nonessential aminos the ones you can't naturally get. Arganine is a big one, Glutamine is good to supp with but it's also found very widely in food such as Banannas and Milk.
Aminos (Semi non and essential), Creatine (aside from water rentention it lengthens your ATP stores), NO (might bulk more though). Just make sure your eatting right, nutrition is the key to all fitness.
