Squats & Front Squats- Are They REALLY That Much Different???

i think it comes down to form

its easier for me to hold strict for with form with front squats

if you have great squat form, it probably is not much diff.

Anyone do back and front squats on the same day?

I want to try that but I think it might be too much.

I do.

My back squatting involves a lot more glute/ham/hips than quads though, so it doesnt really get in the way of my front squats.

I'd give it a go, no reason you can't do them in the same workout.

I read a few years ago that studies were done and they concluded that front squats didn't hit the quads any more than back squats. the researchers hypothesized that people believe their quads are worked more with the former because of the increased strain on the cardiovascular system when front squatting (due to the effort needed to hold the bar across the shoulders, instead of letting it rest on the back). i personally like back squats better, so i always start my leg workout with those. i will occasionally throw in front squats at the end after squats and presses though, cause they're a tough movement that is fun to do-and not to mention, they still work amazingly well.

id be interested to see what differences in form they took into consideration. a PL'er back squatting vs. an Oly lifter front squatting are 2 different animals.

i do front squats like ronnie. going all the way down but when i go up i dont lock out. always have strain on the muscles. i think it works much better than standing tall and then going back down.

btw, i have been doing front squats for 4 months straight and i have seen more quad develpoment during that time then the past 2 years before that just doing back squats and leg presses.

Yeah, I seen that clip with him doing Front Squats with 405lbs with ease in a non stop motion without locking out. I'm going to use them as my main Quad exercise for at least 2-3 months and evaluate my quad development.
