Squat Problem

JBRIII

New member
Guys/Gals,

I have a question. When I squat I get a raised bump, for lack of a better word, on my spine between my shoulder blades at the base of my neck. Almost forms like a shelf for the bar to rest on. It's usually tender for a day after I squat and then kind of goes down. I've tried to use a lower position for the bar, but the position is not as comfortable/stable.

Does anyone know what this might be? Or if it is dangerous?

Thanks,

John

you are probably carrying the bar too high. the bar neds to rest on your rear delts. i suspect that your hold the bar close too. take your hands out more and that will give you a more stable surface. wider is better.

What is this a Pontiac Commercial? LOL!! I hear yah on the wide grip. I tore a nerve in my pec a few years ago and am plagued with shoulder problems, so I go as wide as I can. Shoulders feel impinged if the grip is too narrow.

Think I'll have to concentrate on getting a lower postion of the bar on my traps. Will probably have to back off on the weight for a while until I get comfortable.

Thanks for the advice.

John

It took me a year to get used to it. I uset to use a rolled up towel like a little pussy. Fuck that.

Also building up your traps definitely helps. Dr. Lumberg prescribes DB shrugs with 100#, 3 sets of 20, once a week.

Do this for 6 weeks and then see me.

LOL

Thanks Spatt's,

I believe that is what's happening. I'll concentrate on pulling my blades together and also a little lower position.

Sounds like your spine. If you squeeze your shoulder blades together, instead of leaving the shoulders rounded forward, that shouldn't happen. The bar will lay across your delts rather than on your vertebrae.
