I have always live by that too.
 
I agree with spatts. Sprint if it isn't slick. We never ran in the rain. Warm up with spandex and warm-ups, then strip the warmups for the workout and you should be fine. It's too easy to ruin your training by slipping on a slick surface at 90% of your top end speed.

Those tracks are nice... I never ran in spikes though... it must be cool...
