Sprained ankle and squats

i sprained my ankle a while back, probably six months, and it still hasnt healed fully. I cant use anything over 135 for squats, or it hurts too bad.

My question is, should i give the ankle more time to heal, or keep using light weight on squats that doesn't really bother it? Im wondering because i hate to interfere with the healing process, but i thought light weights might be beneficial.

you can weight bear (your own body weight) a few days post sprain,it is actually beneficial to the healing process by keeping the joint active, not allowing the tendons and ligaments to get stiff, but as far as squats go im not sure. have you tried the leg press machine? does it hurt less/no difference?
the recovery period for a sprained ankle is usually around 8-12 weeks, so 6 months is a long time.you really should go to your doctor and say it hasnt healed fully yet, he/she can advise better than anyone on here.
funnily enough, i've recently sprained my ankle too, but im not even going to bother with squats yet, im still hobbling around the gym!

well its healed as far as me being able to walk around on it, and has been for some time, but there are certain things i cant do like jump from somewhere and land on it, heavy squats, etc. hell i can even run on it. The squats dont cripple me they just hurt like hell.

6 months is crazy. something is up with that. I play college basketball and have sprained my ankles countless times from mild (walk it off) to severe (cast and talk of surgery) it has never taken 6 months to fully heal. I just came out of a walking boot for a sprained ankle 3 weeks ago and im back running, jumping, and lifting.

Use a smith machine....
As long as you don't roll the ankle , you should be fine. Ankle ligaments shouldn't be much of an issue squatting.

If you have to walk back and forth with weight on your back , then you might have issues. Just use a smith machine and that becomes a non issue

get a aircast brace, and use a smith machine to squat.

thats what i had to do when i messed my ankle up a year ago
