Sonsorship

I currently have some sponsors and have my own deal worked out with them. I have learned that when you approach someone for sponsorship you should have an idea of what you want. It is pretty funny when you ask for a sponsorship and the person says "o.k., now what would you like" and you say "ummmmm." Also, anyone could be a sponsor. I was told by a guy that I traveled to train with recently that he is sponsored by a car dealership, go figure. I must try that one. Hey Mr. I will bench 700 for that Mercedes.

If you want sponsorship other than some free gear you need to be professional about it. I cringe when I see posts on forums such as "Inzer won't get back to me!" or even better "I deserve a sponsorship!" Keep in mind that if you do not represent yourself well, a company definitely will not want you representing them.

vizenzo- In your opinion, would it be hard to get a small sponsorship deal, say just free equipment, for a competitor(teen division) who is just starting to compete on the national level

Deceiver,

I think you need to be able to show a prospective sponsor you can promote their equipment/product. Have you ever sent this equipment company any other lifters and if so have they used your name? If you do not feel confident about asking for a sponsorship I would say hold off until you do. I imagine it would be very difficult to revisit the same prospective sponsor after they have already turned you down once.

im no where near ready to be sponsored.. maybe in a couple years. For now im just a 14(soon to be 15) year old kid, who has a decent total, who wants free stuff.
