sponsorships in PL

endpoint

New member
do sponserships exist in powerlifting?
If so at what level, and to what gain for the lifter (12 months supply of protein? free shirts??)

I am no where near a sponsership, just interested for my future!

what types of companys sponser,
do you own a sponsership or have a friend who does?

There is a good bit of sponsership in powerlifting. ARound here almost all of the money to run a contest is donated through local businesses. Lifters around here get there employer to sponser them, some get free flights and hotels, some just get cash. You can even try to get your gym to sponsor you by getting a discount/free membership or getting some money for expenses.

i wanna get sponsored by Titan or Inzer. Im hoping that if i do a national competition or something, that maybe one of them will help me out if i need it. I doubt it though.

westside barbell, elitefitnesssystems, and inzer are currently sponsoring me. i have whatever shirts and alterations i want. and i have whatever squat suits and other lifting equipment for free. also, efs has sent me a monolift, reverse hyper, glute ham raise, bands, weight, a power rack, and all sorts of other stuff. i just need you guys to keep this on the hush. also i get 25lbs of protein a month from some company. it's pretty good quality stuff. the best part is that it's easy to digest. i'm also looking for a company to provide a maid service, a cook, and pay for my rent, clothing, cable, electricity, water, food, and buy me a 50" widescreen tv. if anyone knows where i can get in touch with anyone like this just let me know.

hah! yeah right! like that would EVER happen. nice to dream sometimes though.

after 10 years of on and off competitive lifting, i have come across the following maxims for myself.

1. do it for personal enjoyment #1... not for glory... no one on the street gives a shit (really!). as pointed out before by someone, everyone you meet that asks about your lifts either 1) knows someone bigger and stronger or 2) just wants to tell their friends they know someone big and strong

2. don't go to a meet only if you can set a 'state record'. There are 5 billion federations (okay maybe 10), and the record keeping is not exactly done scientifically. While it is a nice bonus to have, if you don't go even when there is no chance you can get the record, you won't improve. (trust me... i've been there done it.)

3. don't enter a meet only if you know you are going to win. My best meets were where I was neck and neck with someone or someone else just came in and kicked my ass. Competition is healthy.

3. don't go seeking money or free stuff. go take a look at PL-USA's top 100 list for each weight class for the year. It will humble you quickly. There are a LOT of talented lifters out there. Why should *you* get a sponsorship. If you become good enough, the sponsors will find you. The only way to do this is to put the time in at enough National meets.

Please don't take this as a personal diss. I came up with these by thinking the exact same way as most younger people do. I still get caught up in the record mentality. It is nice to have as a goal, but will never be the sole reason I enter a meet.

I personally hope the money meets go nowhere, we never ever get into the fucking olympics, and as many average or even below-average people in the world enter the sport as possible. if powerlifting ever goes mainstream, it will take it out of the hands of the 1000s who are able to enjoy it as is.

Some good points Irish. I think a lot of us, especially myself, get caught up in winning and losing and all the records. We should all remember that this is supposed to be fun.

While I completely agree with all of Irish's points, I must say that I do not lift for fun.

I lift for the glory, the accolades from the crowd, the millions. . . and millions of my fans.

Also, this is step one in MY personal plan for world domination.

Benchmonster, your a fucking trip man. We need to hang out sometime lol. Hell Im short just like you are, Im also hairy(I noticed you were a bit of an ape yourself in your pics lol,j/k) and Im not afraid to drink some beer either. So maybe we should schedule this sometime so I can get fans of my own as well?!?!

Autographs are no problem. Actually I have not given an autograph since high school. And only a couple of them then.

SolidJ, I woud love to hang out or train or both. But I think you may be a little too far of a drive away. Wait a couple years and we may be bumping into one another at a WPO event, and I intend to be backstage in the warmup area, I expect you to be there as well.

And yes, I am pretty hairy. I don't shave, (though MacSledge does) except for the back. I cannot go shirtless and show a hairy back. It is one of my few vanities.

When I was in college I actually shaved arms, legs, chest, everything. Drove some chicks wild. The current Mrs. hated it, but married me anyway. I hate to admit I shaved, and tanned, ever, but they say that facing the problem is the first step on the road to recovery.
