Speed dating (or pre-dating), ever try it?

I'm thinking of giving this a try. The few dates I've had since my divorce have been less than stellar, and I'm already tired of the bar scene after only a few months (I never have been a bar person anyway). Match.com doesn't seem to be working either, most likely due to my location more than anything. I figure at worst I hate it, at best I meet some new single women outside of a bar, and at really best I find someone I might actually enjoy dating, maybe even someone who can hold an intelligent conversation for a change.

Anyone ever try this who can tell me what to expect?

ive been to a few things like that..

one was you met with people for 3 mins which was too short

the other you met each person for 8 mins and that was pretty good..

then after them there is normally a party or something so you can track down who you met and liked and stuff like that..

i would go to another one again no problem.. it was fun

I had a female friend try it. She said it was alright, had a couple dates out of it.

Heh, that EF thread has some foreshadowing in it, Smurfy's last post was that she would 8-minute date Lumberg. I'm guessing they weren't together then since he was going to one of those things.

I don't know, not everyone enjoys going to bars nowadays. I know I don't. It's not about lack of game, it's about lack of opportunity to meet singles. In any case it looks like mid-February is the first one I can get into. I'll post a report then.

They way my friend explained it, it's pre-arranged. You "sign up", the organizer makes sure there are an even # of men/women. You all meet at a particular place, and I guess start off sitting at a table with one person for 8 minutes, then you have to go to the next table. Once you're through all the people, I think you write down who you'd be interested in going on a date with. And I think the organizer, will forward you the contact info, of any people that chose you.

Yep, that's it, except the one I'm going to is 6 minutes per sitting, not 8. The women sit and the men move from table to table. Even if I don't like any of the women it will be a good thing to experience.
